That smiley face told you all you needed. A couple years back I took the advice of the F&S Shooting Editor when he did a column on the best of the best in most of the shooting categories. I figured that he got to test a whole lot more sporting equipment than the average guy, so when he picked the Leupold VX-2 EFR 3-9x33 Fine Duplex Matte Rimfire as the best scope, one went on my 77/22 and I've never wanted for more on a .22. That A/O (adjustable objective) corrects for parallax down to 10 Meters and since most of my red squirrel range is in that 10-15M range, that scope has been perfect. Leupold replaced that model with another rimfire scope, so used is the only place to buy one now and they do get costly.
My other auto is a .45
The bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory
Seems a bit overkill for a rimfire? If not, what am I missing?
You say that as if a rimfire isn't worthy. Maybe for some it is not. If you are just plinking and shooting small game at close distance you aren't missing anything. If you have the desire to shoot long range Rimfire then you are missing a lot!
Depends on the rifle and how you plan to use it. Targets? SWFA 10x42. Walking around small game/plinker? That Weaver Classic V7 RF, Weaver 6x, Burris 3-9, would all work well. With the HM2, 100yard fixed focus isn’t a problem. If a little extra weight won’t bother you, the SWFA 6x42 is great and focuses very closely. The reticle can be hard to see in dim places. Mine gets used mainly for proving other scopes are hosed.
I have a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 on a 10/22 at the moment. Works very well, but is a bit spendy. It could find itself on something else if the notion strikes me.

I don't see taking an HM2 out very long range. I know my other HM2 and my HMRs aren't real solid in any kind of wind/gust.

How near can you adjust on this scope?
Shooting Rinfire at distance will make you better at wind calls.

as close as you want.
Agree with this.
One of our favorite things to do is set up eggs at 300 yards.
We line up 3-6 shooters and call each egg...see who can hit it first
Afternoon wind makes things very interesting.
Most of us are using Annie's, Vudoo, 52, etc. Sometimes a Garrow or two will show up.

What is everyone's best scope for a rimfire?
Without a target budget and knowing how you want to use it, that's a pretty wide open question. One used for rabbit hunting in thick cover would be very different from one used for plucking prairie dogs at 100 or going for the smallest possible groups.
For Utility, the 6x MQ is an easy solve with 10yd parallax,42 Mil's on the erector,10 more Mil's on the etched reticle,an uncanny ability to cling to zero, amazing tracking and repeats...if only for starters. Hint.
The 10x while not as versatile,do nice thangs. Hint.
6's and 10's,though hardly inclusive,as there's a "few". Hint.
'Course I shoot 'em on my Garrow Hummers,Custom 77/22 Hummer,Franklin Whizzum and 77/17 OEM Whizzum. Hint.
The finite parallax control and incredibly robust internals, simply STEAL the fhuqking show. Hint.
Now ask PaulaBurnedHard what she "shoots",besides her Imagination and Pretend. Hint.
Fhuqking LAUGHING!.................
Brad says: "Can't fault Rick for his pity letting you back on the fire... but pity it was and remains. Nothing more, nothing less. A sad little man in a sad little dream."
Ooooopsie! Can only hang (10) frames. My bad. Hint. Laughing!
The Reupold Rapper installed, due a Meopta Optika6 PUKE. One being just as fhuqking funny,as the other! Hint.
Reupold Rapping. Hint. Raughing!
The last NIB Burris I gave a fair chance to,aboard a 18lb+ Bart' barreled Vudoo. FUNNY schit at the 50yd line! Hint. LAUGHING!
Just sayin'.

Again it is what your going to use it for. Rolling bunnies in front of the beagles I wouldn't be hampered by a 1-4x20mm. Picking squirrels out of the tree tops a 2-7, 3-9, 2-12, 4-16 wouldn't be out of the question. My target/paper punching 22's wear an 8-32 and 4-16 Weaver, my coyote 22 Mag rifle wears a 1.5-6x42.

I totally agree. "What's everyone's best scope for a rimfire" is an extremely vague question. Also, what is "best" for some may not work for chidt for someone else.. Furthermore, most rimfire specific scopes work well on rimfires. As do most other scopes with a parallax setting.. As an example, here's a scope I use on my Ruger 10-22 that I've been fine tuning. I also use these scopes on most of my AR's:
Its an AR556 and works well. Did a little shooting yesterday with that rifle.
Here's one I use on my A17:
Burris MSR 4.5-14x42
Savage 93R17:
Older Weaver V16 4-16x42
My "sleeper" rifle wears a Bushnell rimfire 6-18x40 with side focus...

Nice rig Pappy....I like an AO on my .22 s really tightens up the groups on a .22 rimfire. On my old Win. Model 75 sporter I have a Leopold Varx II 3x9 compact AO and on my Yonkers Kimber classic I have a Leupold Varx Ii 4x12 AO.
For me they are the perfect scopes for a squirrel hunting 22.
