1894 marlin with 240 and 300gr hornady xtp loads have done very well for me. Great wound channels on whitetails I've taken with it. Mild recoil and much more consistent than my slug guns. Shoots magtech 240s very well also.

I've had a couple of 44magnum Marlin 1894 lever actions and the both shot the 240gr Hornady bullets extremely well but shot Speer 240gr SP and HP even better! I only had one in my hands once when I could take a deer with it though. It was loaded with the Speer SP bullets and they put the deer down instantly!
I also used the Hornadys with a sabot in a muzzleloader that duplicated the Marlin 44 loads. It shot approximately 1700fps from either one and I killed a good many deer with the smokepole. Never recovered a bullet. Now I have a a Marlin 1894 in 41mag that needs to get blooded...
