Has anyone owned or shot a CZ 40P? I am looking at one but cannot find any information about the model. I know that CZ makes good quality handguns but this model seems to be a long lost model. This particular gun is in a S&W 40 cal. Give me your opinion of this model. Thanks Daniel

They feel really good in the hands. They were put together by CZ when CZ was chasing Colt the FIRST time (maybe 25 years ago), before the current buy-out. Colt was supposed to market them as a co-sponsor kind of thing, but that deal fell thru and both companies went their separate ways. I believe some were sold with Colt markings, but only a very few. The rest were peddled by CZ as their own.

The CZ 40 P was known as a 'Frankin-Pistol' and was the result of a failed joint-venture initiated by Colt. It was founded on little more than a handshake. Colt wanted to enter the 'Double-Actiion' Market but lacked the experience, and was also considering entering the 'Smart Gun' debacle' at the same time.. The resulting effort was the Colt Z-40 pistol which had 'lines' similar to a '1911' - but was 100% CZ. Colt sold the few resulting Colt Z-40s with little fanfare and abandoned the 'deal', the 'concept', and 'walked'! CZ, was then stuck with a remaining stockpile of parts, and marketed their version of the 'Colt' pistol and named it the CZ 40-B. CZ's only 1911 style pistol at the time. CZ still had many remaining left-over Colt Z-40 slides and in an efficiancy-move mated those frames to their then 'new' CZ P-01 pistol resulting in the CZ 40-P and produced a limited number of - but later found more left over slides and produced even more CZ 40-Pees. I've long had my CZ 40-P pistol and it was long my favorite handgun. I also still have a NIB CZ 40 B. <> https://www.budsgunshop.com/images/11847.jpg <>

I have no idea as to value, but I remember seeing them on local shelves for right around the $400 mark about 20 years ago. I'd think inflation has maybe bumped the price up a bit from that point, but by now, they are a 20+ year old orphan gun that has no support. I wouldn't think of paying a premium for one in any way.

ratsmacker, I finally got in contact with CZ, actually talked with a human. Cz told me that 40P internally is a 75 so parts are available. Some parts are not available such as barrels and hammer. CZ did not tell me value but a good friend did locate 2 different excellent condition 40P's at $725 & 750, doesn't mean they will sell for that. So I am in a fix, don't know how to list them. Thinking maybe I will keep it but will have to think about it. Thanks Daniel

Sounds ‘collectible’, maybe to the right person. CZ must have a site/forum. I’d go there first, if to sell, and gauge interest level.

Thanks, P Weed. That's great information. This gun in NIB never fired so $650-$700 would be a good price. Thanks again, Daniel

jmd025, Yes I am selling. I am sorry my original post was not clear. I acquired several items from an estate and was trying to gather information on that firearm, having never seen that model of CZ. Daniel

Could you post some pics of the pistol? I like CZ pistols and don't mind the 40 S&W..Your price is in the ballpark. The last 40p I saw was at Cabelas and it was $600. I damn near bought it, but I already own a 4006 and XDM 40.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
