Kimber is a very high volume, production line, 1911 manufacturer, not a "custom" shop as they try to present themselves as being.

As such, a few guns occasionally get out with minor fitting or adjustment issues that anyone with fairly basic gun skills & 1911 knowledge can easily correct or adjust.

Other than the really poor series made with external extractors, Kimber as fine..................I've never seen one with really out of spec frames or slides that could not be pretty easily made to run well.

Yes, they use MIM parts, but they are not alone in that respect, either OEM or aftermarket wise.

I know a lot of Kimber owners and shooters and very little issues. I bought a lightweight a month ago and not one issue with it , love that gun. Outstanding fit and finish. MIM parts lots of brands including Colt use Mim parts .

I feel no need to move beyond the Colt 1911 and Gold Cup .45's I shoot. Better available? Probably. But they work, and suit me just fine. And. Never. Let. Me. Down.

School on 1911 is a short class. They are great guns, absolutely everyone should own a few.

I’ve owned several Kimber 1911’s. Never had an issue with any of them. All of them were 100 % Reliable. And accurate too.

At times in life you see or here something that really makes you laugh and never forget it. And so it was one day while reading an issue of guns and ammo ? In Cooper's Corner. The late Col Jeff was asked about 9mm in a 1911 platform. "He look the guy in the eye told him to save the money and get his testosterone level checked." Never forgot that and still makes me laugh

Seems a lot of your decision could be based on how much shooting your going to do with it. If it's going to be used as a high volume target pistol or you really want a Colt or other more expensive hard to find right now 1911 wait till you find one. I've owned both Colt and Springfield 1911's, wish I'd held on to them.

For use as an occasional range gun and/or home defense pistol you could be shooting right now you might want to reconsider the much less expensive RIA you mentioned. The way things are today If you don't like it you won't have any trouble selling it for about what you paid for it, maybe more, The std RIA 1911 I bought a couple of years ago, stock out of the box, has well over a thousand rounds through it with all kinds of ammo including defense loads and reloads. It's never malfunctioned, has a decent trigger and has no problem with non factory magazines. For my use it works and shoots as well as I could shoot the more expensive 1911s. Based on reviews I've read on these that's not unusual.

If it hasn't been mentioned the Colt 1911 Classic is a nice pistol, has a NM barrel, decent sights, and is a 70's series configuration, but with a normal bushing. Ken Hackathorn liked the one he tested, and that's saying a lot. It's pretty reasonable in price when you can find one. It does have a short trigger and flat mainspring housing, some don't care for them.

I prefer full size guns just because they're a lot easier to get working well and are much more comfortable for me to shoot. A .38 super might be hard to find, I haven't owned one in years and have no idea about the ammo situation.

Just so you know, Sig also lists at least one 1911 in 10 mm.

And there's a Ronin in 9mm for $900. The 38 barrel could come later. Yes, there are a few options

The Colt Series 70 Competition model comes in more than just 45. I’ve seem them in 9mm as well. I had to change the grips on mine because the blue grips didn’t do it for me:

What they are or were made in, and finding them today is not the same thing. Getting Gunbroker to fix a mysteriously frozen account is another thing altogether.

I got VERY lucky and was able to purchase the Kimber Stainless Target II with three barrels mentioned in the other thread.

Very, very pleased with initial performance with 115s in the 38 Super barrel and with 180s at 1100 fps in the 10mm barrel.

The Kimber is equipped with black soft rubber grip panels. I am kinda liking them.

Post of the day. I own a Colt Delta Elite 10mm customized by Wilson and an Ed Brown Special Forces 45 ACP. Love em both!

All things 1911 start with how much money do you want to spend?

I'm a fan of the 1911 pistol.
As long as it runs good, I don't really care whos name is on the slide.

Not a 1911, so maybe irrelevant, but the CZ 75 B and some variants borrow a lot from the design. All steel and full-sized ones are heavy, so in 9mm they’re very very forgiving on the hands. Ton of capacity too, so that’s fun. Just an idea. Pretty affordable as well.

Maybe they don’t borrow a lot. Now that I think on it. But they do seem like they’re kissing cousins. Ergonomically or aesthetically at least.

Ok, maybe just ‘very un-glock like’.

Sorry I’ll STFU now.
