So I’ve been on a 10+ year hunting break. Now it’s time to get back in the woods. The rifle that’ll go with me is a Marlin 336. It was Mom’s. Dad bought it for her 40 years ago or so. It has a cheap 4x scope on it. The label on the scope…KMart. How things change.

Exactly where my Marlin 25 came from.
The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!

Bought 2 Marlin 30-30s in '66 when I was 14 years old from KMart. First rifles for Dad and I. We actually shot several Couse deer with them before i got my first Remington at 17. George

Kmart used to have a decent fishing department as well. Then even had their own brand of tackle.

I have a marlin 336 that was a special run for Kmart…. My dad bought it for my mom in the late 70’s….. has a straight grip with a half tube magazine and an 18” barrel….. I put som Williams peep sights on it…..super handy little rifle….great gun for hog or bear hunting with dogs. They say they are tough to find now but I’m not sure?

KMart had Model 94 no frills 30-30 for 79.95, when young, Most of us got one as a first deer rifle. One buddy still has his. Mine went down the road years ago.

Yep, I bought many rifles, shotguns, and handguns from Kmart back in the day.
Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Bought a new Remington 760 in 30/06 for around $150 at Kmart back in the mid-late 80s.
All the Kmart stores in my area are gone now.

I still have an H&R single shot 410 that my mom bought for me at Christmas in Ogden Utah in 1983. The price new was $48. I shot a lot of birds, mostly ducks before steel shot laws, with that 410. It made me a very good wing shot. When I moved up to a 12 gauge a year or so later it seemed like I couldn't miss.
I took it out and let my 8 year old shoot it a while back. He had trouble letting the hammer back down after deciding not to fire a few times. I tried to show him how to hold it with his thumb and pull the trigger while slowly lowering the hammer. Something I could always do, probably because I was older when I started with it, but he couldn't without letting it slip.
I went out and bought him a maverick 88 micro youth in 20 gauge with a safety that he manages to operate fine. His first time ever firing the maverick last year he killed a grouse with it. First shot out of the gun.

Target used to sell guns, and so did Sears.

Target used to sell guns, and so did Sears. Most chain stores and local hardware stores did back in the day. Many sold their own store brand guns that were contract manufactured by major brand name gun manufacturers.
