I have a older Redfield 3x9 low profile wide field scope ( U.S. made ) and a Simmons Master series Prohunter 3x9 . Looking through them I can't tell the difference myself except to say the Redfield seems a little clearer at higher power. I know the Master series doesn't fog and is suppose to have coated glass. Anyone know anything about the Redfield ? I'd like to put the better of the two on a 30-06 until I can get a Leupold for it. Thanks KH

One way to tell which has better glass is to check/test them for flare. With the sun on the front lense, but not necessarily in the image of the scope, see which has the sharpest image. You want to make sure they are both focused as sharp as possible before you do this. E

I learned about parallax from missing a nice buck with a 3-9 Redfield. That scope was so bad. No wonder they went out of the scope business. I would check them both at 100 yds. My shot was almost 200 yds and I am still not happy about it. Live and learn.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!
