I know nothing about hunting/fishing opportunities there.

I met 2 different families from California on vacation that were planning on retiring in Tennessee in a few years. Both wanted to be in Eastern TN

That can be good or bad depending on how they tax pensions and SS, assuming there is no sales tax. If they have good income tax advantages for seniors. you might be better off there with no sales tax.
Then there are the states like Idaho with both. They get you in all directions.

FT Bridger WY

Just down the road from Flaming Gorge, and you get WY residency. Lots of great hunting in WY

Your informed suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Central Washington.....Near Moses Lake has all the prerequisites you mention. Climate is amazingly good most of the year.

And high crime, 90 per cent Mexican pop there now. Desert, no trees, hot as ballz all summer. Quail and duck hunting is ok.

Is there any decent fishing on Dworshak?

Bruce, I never got to fish it when I was up near that area. Had a number of friends that did though. Excellent smallmouth fishing there, and kokanee too. Folks get grouse in the area too I think. Motor up lake, park in a cove and go after them. Might be somewhat steep for us old fellers though.

Don't forget the Snake and Clearwater rivers are right there. Can't get too far up the latter before it turns into steelhead/salmon wade fishing though. But there's great smallmouth, some crappie and catfish, and even sturgeon in the Snake, along with steelhead and chinook depending on the returns and seasons.

Lots of small Army Corps places to hunt quail and pheasant. If you get to know some folks you can get after Huns, and the other two in the farmlands. Chukar too, but we know what that habitat is like.

Climate is pretty mild for so far north too.

Five years of Calgary winters did it for us, North Idaho was a blessing then.

Used to be lots of Prairie Dogs to shoot in that area. And good Pheasant hunting. Locals were friendly too.
Haven’t been there in YEARS.

Not entirely correct. Lewiston is about an hour from Orofino on US 12 with Dworshak Dam and the big reservoir behind it. You wouldn't be too far from bird shooting in eastern Washington's wheat country either. I've only been there once ... it's pretty.

Lonely up there since the 'flave left.

And the weather is brutal, he's not fooling me.
