I want a new (to me) QUALITY whitetail rifle for hunting in GA . Stuck on 7mm-08, had a few of them and sold them like an idiot but like the chambering. Prefer something not insanely heavy. Typical shots 0-300 yards. Would like sub-MOA capability with factory loads.
I've considered custom, but timelines make it difficult to hit by this fall. So for a factory rifle (new or used), budget of $1500ish, what would you recommend?

Look into the cz 557. I bought one a few months ago in 6.5 swede and its fabulous. Great fit and finish and super accurate. I was pleasantly surprised at the performance for the price point.

Buy the 700 Varmint special in the classifieds. If that's too heavy, I'd get a model 70 of some sorts. Probably the EW.

I've considered custom, but timelines make it difficult to hit by this fall. So for a factory rifle (new or used), budget of $1500ish, what would you recommend? E-Z choice for me. I'd get a Tikka T3x stainless synthetic. I own/owned several T3/T3x Tikkas and they all shot great, have excellent triggers, weren't too heavy and never failed me. They've all been way more accurate than almost everyone of my Rem 700s and Win M70s. The only other rifle that has been as consistently accurate for me are the Ruger American Predator models. I've owned them in 243W, 25-06 and 6.5CM, and still have one in 6mmCM. They all shot great but feel like a budget rifle and aren't that well balanced like my Tikkas.
Pursuit may be, it seems to me, perfect without possession. Robert Kelley Weeks (1840-1876)
