Since my 243 build is on hold until I can source the last part (magazine), I started planning my boomer build. I was thinking Defiant action, Proof barrel, Greyboe stock, Timney Trigger and some nice glass pushing a 300 RUM cartridge.

While I was at the range a couple of weeks ago, I met a member who had a RPR 6.5 CM and a Bergara B14 in 6.5 PRC. For the price, he said you can't get a better rifle. I asked about the 300 PRC. He said it has great ballistics...look it up. So I did a little research and yes the ballistics are really awesome. So the price of my build would be more than 2k (not including scope). The Savage 110 Elite is $2000, the Ruger is $2389, the Remington Precision doesn't come in a PRC and I can't find the price on the 300 RUM. I even looked at the Fierce Fury and Christensen Mesa (nice price!!!).

He wasn't lying. I paid just under $1000 for the B14 HMR Wilderness. At first glance, I like the chassis; the bolt is smooth, and the trigger is good. My buddy's Fury has a slightly nicer trigger but only slightly. I had some in-store dollars at Sportsman's and Optics Planet so I got a Tally one piece base and set of Burris XTR 30mm rings. I had FFP scope collecting dust so for now its sitting on top of the B14. Monday, I was able to source 5 boxes of 225gr Hornady ammo.

How did it shoot?
Since I just mounted a scope, I set the target at 50 yards. I put the data into my Sterlok program and set the zero to 200 yards. You know the zero at 200 is only slightly off the zero at 50 for at round? For the record I wasn't able to shoot it 200+ yards today but I really really really wanted to shoot this thing even if it meant 50 tiny yards.

The kick was the same as the 300 RUM Fury. I have shot the Fury a lot, the accuracy and ballistics of the 300 RUM is very impressive. The B14's trigger is not quite as smooth as the Fury's and the scope on the B14 can't compare to the Razor on top of the Fury (I'll fix the next).

I fell like it wouldn't be a fair comparison because of the short distance but as far a initial thoughts do I love the fit, feel and handling of the B14. The printed ballistics of the cartridge is impressive. Now that the rifle is zeroed in at 200, I look forward to stretching out the yards to .. well a reasonable distance since I don't have great optics on it yet... about 800 yards max.

Do you shoot a 300 PRC? 6.5 PRC? B14? How do you like the cartridges and the B14? Do you have any long range experience with either cartridge? Do you know where I can find a Savage 308 magazine part number 55232?

Thanks in advance

HaYen

Man, I wished I knew you needed ammo. I found a pile of the 225 ELD's for 50 a box for a buddy here at work over the weekend. If you still need some, I'll get my brother back up to grab what he can.

Rifle looks good.

Will do. I passed some 4 boxes of the 225 ELDs on Saturday cause my buddy had acquired enough. I’ll try to get the fellas locked back on though. That is a devil of a loaded round.

I stopped by Sportsman. They had 10 boxes and allowed a max 5 per customer.
