I live on a 90 to 110ft ridge system. The cumberland is about 600 yds as the crow flies from the house. The stream in the valley is up somewhat
Getting all the alerts.
Slumlord gets hit hard in rains like this. His place is in a valley flat
The creek along the bottom is the only drainage around their.
Some of flash overflows of that creek have been pretty epic.
I aint heard nothing from him since around 9 when I called him this morning when I was on my way to a gun show.

They are like 35 miles south. Waverly has alot of creek valleys and ridge areas.
We really didnt get much rain to speak of here. Been raining on and off . Lot of the flooding around might be out in the county in hill and ridge terrian. People build homes and put up trailers in some iffy areas.

IDK called him x 2 no answer. Not uncommon.
Usually when the creek gets epic he gives me a report on it.
He might be working gravel or rock with his tractor at the creek or at the bridge his FIL has to get in the area.
Their is a bad dogleg turn in the creek just below the bridge. He has put rip rap rock in that area before.
Usually it is him doing all the grunt work if the creek is bad.
He will probably give a update if he is doing tractor/ creek work after he is done and surfs on here.

Hope Mr Slum's crew is ok.
During a storm in 2018 the county south of us got 35 inches in 24hrs. The spot I live in got about 22.
Hurricanes suck.

Its been a tough couple of years around here. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy We had 10+ inches on the Cumberland plateau about a decade ago. Lots of drainages going into the river. Bad floods down river from that one. COE had worries about Wolf Creek dam IIRC letting go and really flooding Nashville and areas down river. Opry mills mall was under water. All the fish at the bass pro shop aquarium got away. Thats how deep the water was. 🥴🥴🥴🥴

We were caught in it this afternoon kinda. I-40 was shutdown where a river was running across it at the 155 mile marker, 13 miles east of the Waverly exit. Once we got to our lease there wasn’t any flooding at all in Cherry Bottoms. 5 miles to our north is completely devastated. I have heard of 2 small children dying and 2 more are missing. I also heard where people said it was like a wall of water that came up in under a minute through town.
It’s bad….really, really bad

We dont get that kind of rain often, but it happens once in a while. Hurricanes dump that kind of rain on the east side quite often, but like this incident, it is a small area that gets the most rain. The difference is that where this incident was localized (17" in a small area and almost none around it), in the hurricanes, you usually have a large area (maybe a 100 miles across) getting a lot of rain also. Not as much as the small localized area, but still 6"-10" is common.

Gristle: Thank you for that update - that is indeed terrible news. I hope the missing folks can be found. And again hoping Slumlord and his family are safe and at high ground. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
