"Use the caliber as it was designed to be used and throw a large, heavy bullet at big game." What is it now, 100 years since it was designed? By that logic, you shouldn't even be using Partitions, just some big piece of schit chunk of lead with an out-of-round jacket wrapped around it.

The 180 TTSX is a ballistic marshmallow, that BC is painful to look at. The 200 is better, wish they would do the 225 in a TTSX, I have been burned by the 225tsx not opening on pigs.
Hunt hard, kill clean, waste nothing and offer no apologies.

The 180 seems like a pretty good option if you want to or have to use a Barnes on lighter game, or out of a .358.

It would probably work Ok. I’d choose 250 grain Hornady Interlocks, Speer Hot Core or Partitions. But that just my choice. Go with what floats your boat.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

What do you guys think of the barnes 180 grain in 35 whelen? With 68 grains of Power Pro Varmint in my 1885 Highwall I chronographed 3231 FPS. Not much that won't slay.
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

I use them in a 358 Savage 99, kills pigs, be even better at Whelen speeds. One of the most fun hunting days, pigs kept coming back out. Ran out of bullets.

In the context of elk hunting it may work but do you want to tempt the fates on a may work? Just remove all doubt and use 250 grain partitions.
Life is too short to hunt with ugly guns.
