Anybody have experience with 168 tipped match kings on deer @300win mag velocities? I’ve got an old 40x that I’m thinking of taking out to hunt this fall. The only load I’ve worked up for it thus far is 230 Berger vld’s. But those are unavailable at this time. Also found some 212 hornady eldx but I’d like a little lighter bullet to help reduce recoil. Sierra says the match kings have thicker jackets…. I could see that helping hold them together at closer range but could also see it hurting their expansion at long range. Thx in advance.

Caught this guy running away at 200 yards with a 125 gr Nos Bal Tip in a 300 win mag Mosin with Krieger barrel. He did not get another step.

Nosler 165 and 180 Accubonds are the perfect bullet for the 300 Win Mag IMO.... and you can usually get them from Nosler or retailers fairly regularly now that supply is starting to catch up...

Not tipped MKs, but I’ve shot a couple of deer and seen several shot with 168 Match HPBTs from a .300. Worked fine on lung and neck shots from 80 to 350 or so. I recall reading that a famous riflemaker from Tucson used 168 SMKs in his .300 Weatherby for Coues, and he killed a bunch of big ones. I would guess that the plastic tip would only enhance performance. Fwiw, any time I carry a .300 lately, it’s throwing 200-grain Accubonds. Best,
Calvin Coolidge had a very low post count too.

I like 165 Barnes TTSX in my 300 Win mag. Accurate! +1 👍 The Barnes 212 gr merits consideration in a 1:8”, if they can be found.

The 200 AccuBomb has a G7 Litz BC of .268 and simply pales to a 22" 7-08 and a 180 ELD M at 2600fps. Hint. 300Winny/200AB/2980fps. Hint. 22" 7-08/180 ELD/2600fps. 1000ft lbs to 1000yds and SuperSonic to 1500yds++. Hint. Just sayin'. Hint. Bless your hearts. Fhuqking laughing!................

No on the Matchkings, those old 40X's are pretty heavy, 200+ grain bullets shouldn't kick bad in that beast, i've used in my 28" barreled 300 Win Mag:
208gr AMax 3000 fps 210gr ABLR 3000 fps 230gr Berger 2876 fps
a few deer, pigs and coyotes from around 440 to 688 yards have all died fast with all three bullets, Retumbo is the powder for that rifle, COL's run 3.625-3.675"

HARD to comprehend, bullets matter more than headstamps. I was a slow convert, but have seen the light! 180g ELD-M at 2700 out of the lowly 280, R#17....jeez...no one would believe it!

Have you taken any game with the 180 yet? I just worked up a load for my 18" fieldcraft 7-08 with the 180s running a bit over 2500fps. It's now shooting them under 1/2 moa. They should hold up on game at these speeds. I tried 6.5 staball first and got up to 2600 fps but the accuracy and consistency wasn't there. A few days ago I went to H4350 because it's worked well in other 7-08s with 162 amaxes. It's shooting them great now. Bb

I always swore to myself that if I had a large 30, id shoot 200 accubonds. Well, I just got a 300 win mag, and now have a pile of Nosler boxes on my reloading bench.

Fascinating. Hint.
What makes someone "think" that a 300 Winny with a 200 AccuBomb is "good" for Long Range...or ANYTHING else? Do tell, mainly because it will be funnier than fhuqk! Hint.
