Would appreciate some suggestions.
I have a Ruger American chambered in 7mm-08 that shoots 120 gr Barnes ttsx into 3/4 inch groups at 2985 fps w/49gr. of Big game.
The question is would you consider this adequate for Black bear?

Black bear come in a lot of varying sizes.....
Just one man's opinion.....yes for most of them. However, I'd use a 180 grain TTSX out of a .30-06 for the unusually larger ones.

I thought you needed a magnum of some sorts.

Really, I think your 7-08 will be fine.

Yep will work fine. Black bears are no harder to kill than a deer. Just put it the boiler room and game over.

It kills elk just fine. Why wouldn't it kill bears?

reo, I load Barnes 130 TTSX in a 308 Model 70 at 3170 fps with TAC, so you probably got a good load there I would think. That one tough bullet and sheds practically no weight in anything I have shot it in...if you can recover one.

Thanks everyone for your responses, they shoot really good in my rifle, but I was a little concerned that it was a little light and never having killed anything with it.I have more experience with 140 gr. npt. in this rifle. You guy's make me confident in using this bullet thanks again.

It will work great. I’ve seen a fair number of fairly large beast slain with 140TTSX out of a short barreled 7-08 and have seen what 130TTSX do out of a 308. I load 120TTSX for my 20” M7 but have not killed with it yet. But I know it will work.

I have seen 500+lb PA black bears killed with 243's so your combination will be fine!

A 120 grain ttsx out of a 7mm-08 will kill the biggest black bear that ever lived. I seriously doubt you will ever have one fail to exit either.

All day.

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

People used to kill about everything with a 30WCF and crude c&c bullets, so........
