Alright folks, finally found one and have it coming my way.

I need dies and some brass for the big fella. I’ve heard that 500 S&W dies work but wanted to ask before I spend any money.

I see BB has brass as well, so that looks like the easy button.

Let me hear what you’ve got. Pretty excited to get this big fella going!

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

A set of 500 S&W Lee dies came with my 500 JRH. I've got a Dillon 550 tool head dedicated to the 500 JRH. Just looked and the crimp station has a Redding die. I don't remember ordering the Redding die (but I very well could have). If you are loading on a single stage press, the lee dies come with a single die for seating and crimping. I know you can seat with the die, but not sure if you can crimp (should fairly easy to shorten the die if it doesn't work as supplied).

Photos of the gun and dead animals please. I am sure you will have fun with that monster. Be Well, RZ.

Does the 500 S&W Lee FCD work for the JRH?

Is there another crimp die to look at?

I have a 7.5” BFR in 500JRH
The RCBS dies will need a 50ae expander or it will crimp/buckle the case when you bell it. They will send it to you free.
They work fine otherwise w/o modifying anything.
The Buffalo Bore brass is definitely the easy button. Only brass I’ve lost with 3-4 loadings are the ones I crumpled with the expander.
I have shot cast and jacketed in mine. The jacketed bullets I’ve used are Hornady XTP with the cannelure. They can get downright unpleasant to shoot at the upper end. I have some of Matt’s bullets the 440WFNGC bullets that I have shot starting with Trail Boss and up.
Good accuracy and I’m sure they will kill good.
I’m hoping to use mine on a deer this fall.

I’ll be glad to help anyway I can.

I got the 5.5" BFR 500. JWP said to try the Lee dies out and they worked fine with the 500 except for the crimp die. I ended up machining .2 off the bottom of the collet and also .2 off the bottom of the die, and it all worked like a champ. Good looking crimp and so far, it is pretty accurate. I have only worked up to 13 grains of Unique and the 440 grain WFN's from Cast Performance, but I am a pretty happy camper so far with this gun. Definitely a shooter and very comfortable to shoot compared to my Ruger SBH Bisley in 480 Ruger.

I ended up getting the Buffalo Bore Brass as well and as is typical with Starline, awesome brass!

My favorite caliber. I have a fairly stout load that is an animal killer and isnt too bad to shoot. 28 gn h110 under a 440 cast performance. Will knock the snot out of anything walking. Extremely accurate in my 5.5" bfr. I bought a couple hundred starline brass when they were available. If you find brass, dont wait. It can be extremely hard to find at times. 500 special dies work like a charm and you can always cut down 500 smith brass if needed
