Evictions can proceed. CDC lacked authority to impose without full Congressional approval.

Now, keep your eyes on Congress.

I'd contend that even with full congressional approval - stripping the property rights of landlords is unconstitutional and never should be allowed.

I feel bad for those legitimately affected and struggling to pay rent but the reality is - many weren't and simply took advantage of a situation. "I got mine" mentality - screw the landlord.

The next sob story will be all these people with evictions unable to find new places to live due to the recent eviction.

Is the 'Bush' moving back to the capitol steps?
Or will 'it' be busy evicting tenants of it's own?

Congrats to Landlords everywhere.

Especially when landlords do background checks on them and find that they hadn't paid their rent for a year.

We only have vacation rentals but I've heard some horror stories about these even.
Rent for a week/weekend and refuse to leave.

Good this can't go on forever, landlords have bills to pay too. Some people are trying, but many have become freeloaders thanks to the CDC and Biden.Willing to bet many who got the free money made no attempt to get caught up on rent, they wasted the money on things they could live without.

Friend got married and decided to rent out her husbands old house to some friends, no contract, etc...guess who hasn't been paying rent! The freeloaders do have a brand new 4 seater sxs in the carport though. Priorities.

Paul, you're right.

Add to that, the smell of crippy everywhere you go. Including the house I recently removed a covid squatter rat.

I hope the deadbeats become permanently homeless with their eviction records ! There needs to be consequences for criminality and poor decisions.

ALL. The courts refused to move forward on ANY evictions based on the CDC ruling.

CDC ruling? Who TH are they to create property law?

well that's the problem right there. The Court did not really pass much of a ruling. They kicked the can, and with Pelosi in charge of the House, and at least 19 GOP Senators ready to vote along with their brothers across the aisle, look for Congress to accept this challenge and pass a law fully authorizing government seizure of private property.

Sounds like Congress is going to start paying rent to go along with free medical and Ebt cards. Free electric cars will be next.

The newspaper mentioned that ‘heartless lockouts of the needy ‘ may follow the scotus ruling.

Most renters don't realize what an eviction on their record does for their future living arrangements. We have a terrific website here in WI. where we can check a person's state court records with just their name. It is a big job screening the people that apply, but when I read an eviction, that person isn't going to be a viable candidate. I've had to evict people, most landlords have, but it is little more than just money for the city because evicted people don't pay a judgement or care anyway. Thorough screening and avoiding an adversarial relationship with tenants sure avoids future problems.
