The only one I have used in the past who lives in Raymond has retired. Any members from Maine know of any good ones.

Seems to be none left. Sad to see Gulf of Maine close.

All my future work I'll likely take to MNR custom in Vermont or Hillbilly Custom in Vermont.

Gus Norcross, in Wiscasset.
http://angusarms.com/

He built two "wicked accurate" 1911 pistols for me: one in a hardball configuration, and another in a wadgunconfiguration with red dot sight. Both were based on Springfield 1911a1 MILSPEC .45 ACP pistols ( NM prefix s/n).

He also put a Criterion barrel on my M1 Garand, (with trigger job, and non-epoxy bedding job on the stock ). All for making an accurate and legal Garand match rifle.

The quality of his work was outstanding, but he is selective on the firearms he works on.

Heard good things about Jud Bailey, but no direct experience with him.

I highly recommend Dietrich Gunsmithy in Otis. They have done a lot of work for me over the past several years... in all cases their work was excellent. PM me if you would like details.

I have gotten to meet Matt Roberts of MNR and hunt with him for a weekend. He had several of his rifles with him. I got to handle them and I was very impressed with the work. Matt’s attention to detail can’t be overstated and you can tell he takes getting it right very personally.

I also was impressed with him as a hunter. That meant a lot to me as well knowing he values the same things in a rifle I do. I look forward to working with Matt on a project in the future and will make the effort all the way from Texas.

I'm thinking that it's been a lot longer than I thought, since I was last at his shop. To answer the question, I just don't know.
