This question has been asked dozens of times but since the world of optics has been changing so much in the last five years I’d thought I’d through the question out there…. I’m buying a pair of binos for my BIL who is getting into hunting. He’s pretty committed and I’d like to get him a good pair. Was looking at the bx-4 leupy, hawke ed-x, and Athlon UHD. Hunting out west so leaning 10x….. anything I’m missing or reviews on binos I listed? I’ve thought about buying used alpha but I’ll let him do that upgrade later.

$500 puts you in Meopta Meopro HD range.

You may want to look for a used pair of Tract Toric binos too. Might be worth posting a WTB ad in the classifieds and seeing if anyone will work with you.

ETA: looks like I was typing at the same time TexasBBQ was posting.

I stole a new pair of BX-4 10x50 on eBay for $385. Have been very happy with them so far, using to glass bean fields in the evening. Bright and clear, excellent in low light

The glass in the Meopro HD is great, but the center focus ring was annoying to me. It seemed I could never achieve appropriate focus because when you moved the ring, it would adjust to much. If they’ve addressed that, I’d consider another pair.
Personally, I’m considering the Tract Torics already noted.

I like my Meopro HD and they were about the least expensive non Chinese made binoculars that I could find.

Tough to beat the Meopta MeoPro 8 or 10x42 and there's even an 8/10x32 option too. From a company known for their glass quality and whose products have been described as "over-engineered", the choice is easy. I used a pair the first year I did some freelance work with Meopta, very impressive. At 25 oz they are easy to wear and glass with all day. Reach out to Doug and ask him to help you out.

Ended up going with the Leupold BX-4. Got a great deal. Taking him hunting tomorrow and giving him the binos. Thanks for all the advise. I’ll try a pair of Meopro the next time around. I have a pair of the meostar B1.1 15x56 and they are amazing for the price. Good to hear the meopro punch above there weight class.
