I have a Taylor (Uberti) 1894 in 38-55 arriving on Wednesday. What words of sage advice can you share when it comes to casting and loading my own?
Thank you,
Alan

Beore investing in a mold, I would buy somecomercially cast bullets to try. I don't load the 38-55 but suspect that some bullets will do better than others. Try Marlinowners.com. There is a section there on such cartridges.

I cannot seat that bullet to the crimp groove but rather a bit ahead of his it. Seems I can only have .40" or less sticking out of the case.

My suggestion find out what the bore diameter is.

My suggestion find out what the bore diameter is. It's been slugged 3x and all 3 turned out .382".

Share some pictures please, when you can. Maybe? I saw this 1886 45-70 one day and went back to buy it, thinking it had been an Uberti. However, it is a Chiapa and I wasn't sure, so I left it . The fit was better than the Uberti actually next to it I was originally eyeballing... Purdy as heck to my eye. Only gripe was not the best stock finish execution, looked rushed. However, I kinda rathet go 38-55. LOL My random thoughts. Looking at this again. . I should have bought it!
