I will be mounting a Swaro 4-12X50 on a 85M Classic Hunter. I'm trying to figure out if the 1 piece low Ringmounts will work? I was told the 2 piece low Optilocks will definitely work, but the 1 piece Ringmounts were questionable as they are a little lower (.009" iirc). Has anybody mounted a 50mm objective on a 85M with low Ringmounts?

Xtra low rings have worked with 50mm scopes on long and short action 75's I have owned. 30mm and One inch tube. That is with the 2 piece ring/base setup. Low ring mounts should absolutely work. Just look at their chart.

Thanks. I was having trouble finding a chart for the 1 piece Ringmounts. I found an old one a bit ago. Looks like the 1 piece will work.
The seller offered to send me both sets to try out. If they both work, which ones would you prefer?

I like the 2 piece and I would go xtralow if possible.

I've mounted a Z3 4-12*50 on a Sako 75 before with the 1 piece ringmounts.

Its tight but it did work for me. No room for a flip cover like a Butler Creek but the Swaro 50mm aluminum flip cover did fit as its the same diameter as the objective.

The 1 piece ringmounts are far lighter than the 2 piece base and ring combo. I'd recommend giving the ringmounts a try.

Same as the others, on a sako 75 no problem with the two piece optilock bases, low rings and 50mm scope. But there is not much clearance left.

I finally got both sets today and tried the low ringmounts first. They will work, but the factory lens covers won't fit. The 2 piece has a little more room with low rings. I think I'm going to stick with the 2 piece. I may get some extra low rings down the road, since I also have a 3-9 x 36. Thanks again for the input ya'll.

Post up some pics of what you used and what you didn't use.

Having issues w a 40mm on a 75 Varmint. Have Leupold Ringmounts right now in medium height. Looks like they may clear something with a 47mm O.D. but not too sure yet.

I have experimented with ring mounts on a few sakos along with different scopes. They NEVER fit quite right.

You can easily use a 40mm objective with Extra low 2 piece rings.

I guess what you are calling a 2 piece ring is the Optilok base and Optilok rings?

Yes. X-tra low will absolutely work with a 40mm objective.

May check into this. The 40mm I wanted to use is about 52mm O.D.

Have another that's about 47mm O.D need to set it in the current medium ring mount and see what it looks like.

Even if it was up to 59mm would not matter but I seriously doubt your 40mm that is 12 mm overall size. Leupold is usually 2-3mm bigger overall then a comparable 50mm
Swarovski.

I have 2 sets of Xtra low optilock rings. I have used the following scopes with these rings on a Sako 75 LA IV and a Tikka T3x. Zeiss Victory HT 2.5-10x50,Schmidt and Bender Klassic 3-12x50,Swarovski Z3 4-12x50 and a Z5I 2.4-212x50. They all fit perfectly.

This is on a sporter contour barrel.

Varmint contour, makes a big difference.

Shouldn't be so quick to doubt either, some of us confirm before typing.

Plenty of 40mm scopes out there that go over 50mm in overall diameter, yes a lot of them with a front AO. I have a Burris 40mm, non AO that's 46-47mm. Can measure and take a pic of that for you too.

I didn't see where you mentioned a scope other then objective size. There are very few scopes made with AO anymore so if you consult the Sako ring and mount chart you should be able to figure it out.

Here's the 2 piece low optilock rings and bases. I didn't get a pic with the 1 piece low ringmounts. I may try some extralows down the road with a smaller scope. This setup seems to fit me pretty damn good the way it is. For now... grin

O.D.=outside diameter.
