I have a Montana rifle company ASR .280AI, left hand, with the wood stock. I would like to replace it with a Boyd's laminate stock. They don't show replacement stocks for this rifle. Since the 1999 action is a clone of the Winchester model 70, does anyone know if it is a direct replacement? Would it work to order the model 70 stock and drop the action in? Calling Boyds doesn't work, I can only get through to the receptionist who will not forward the call to someone who might know.

Thanks

While very similar, they are not a direct drop in. On a short action MRC I had, the action was about an 1/8" longer which required filing a Winchester stock. Also the bolt release area will need work as well. It can be done but is not totally drop in.
