This is what a 17 Hornet will do
17 Hornet CZ 527 25grain Hornady V-max, 11 grains 1680, 5 shot .5 " group

Love my 17 Hornets but I shoot 20 grain V-MAX bullets.

Yep, have found the 20's not only do more damage but drift less in the wind than the 25s at typical PD ranges.

John, if you were going to build a 17 Hornet for prairie dog shooting, what contour and length of barrel would you have?

I also shoot 20 grain V-max and like it a lot. But I think that one was done in with the 25 grain version.
I was amazed that 15 grain factory through 25 grain all shot into the same one inch bullseye. I took all three bullets - loads PD shooting this year as I was happy with all.

with a suppressor on the end, the .17 hornet, and the .17AH will just put a smile on your face. My two favorite rounds for Pdog plinkin'.

OSU Sign,

For the past decade my .17 Hornady Hornet has been a CZ 527 Varmint, with a medium-heavy 22" that's .75" in diameter at the muzzle. It's VERY accurate, and I really like the single-set trigger as well. If I were going to build another it would be something along that line.

Yeh, but don’t mention the horrible recoil.
