Made up my mind that by gosh I'm going to find a Kimber Classic in 257 Roberts. Let the local gun shop make that decision for me when they had ammo on the shelf after I've been wanting one for years. Not in a rush building this one, it'll come out just for occasional whitetail hunting. So far looking at these for options for optics:
Leupold VX-3HD 2.5-8x36 Maven RS.2 2-10x38 Swarovski Z3 3-9x36
Anything else in current production in the realm of those I listed in weight/mag?

I put a Leupold 2.5-8x36 on my Kimber .257 Roberts. It just "fits". It has all the power I need and is light enough it doesn't unbalance the rifle. And I think the the gold ring on an American made wood stock rifle is very traditional and looks right.
I did put a Swaovski Z3 3-9x36 on a Dumoulin Mauser in 7x57 keeping with a European theme for the rifle. It is also a good scope. Never tried a Maven.

I think the 2.5-8x36 is the perfect match to the Rob. I have a 2-7x33 LRD on top of my Kimber Rob, but I may switch it out with one of the spare 2.5-8x36 B&C's I have.
The wood-stocked Kimber 257 is a svelt, classic rifle and deserves a scope that works with that aesthetic.

My new notion of the perfect lightweight scope for deer and such is the Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 w/duplex. About $650 street-price. 13oz. Think they have a battery-powered one as well.
Dang! 10Glocks swooped in and beat me to it!
What fresh Hell is this?

That 3-9 Trijicon is indeed a good pick.

I had a 2.5-8 Leupold on my faux TI 257Rob. for years. Thought I'd upgrade to a 3.5-10. That lasted only a couple range trips and went right back to the 2.5-8. Happy again!

For a set and forget scope the Leupold is hard to beat.

I think the Leupold VX-3HD is a very nice scope. I've got three of them, on an X-Bolt .30-06, Win M70 Featherweight .308 and a Ruger Hawkeye 6.5x55. They're light and have good glass. Don't care for the CDS-ZL turret on top, but its easy enough to set and forget.
As far as the Trijicon goes, they are outstanding. Trijicon is good stuff. I had a much higher powered Accupoint on a Colt LE901 7.62 and it performed very well through several thousand rounds until I finally sold it. The $629 deal at Midway is hard to beat so I picked up two of them. I got one with the Duplex reticle and green dot to go on a Ruger M77 MkII Express .270, and one with a red triangle post reticle to go on my Ruger Hawkeye African 6.5x55 Swedish (I'll be replacing the Leupold referenced above). I'll be flipping a coin as to which one will accompany me on my next Maine bear hunt.

My Kimber Select 257 would have a 2.5x8 leupold but I couldn't find one with a heavy duplex. I found a 1.75x6 with a HD reticle and it looks great and works great. Without eye issues it would be a 2.5x8 no question.

I think you guys are right, I'll likely go Leupold. Something about the little Swaro with a 4A keeps me coming back to it though.

Someone listed a Vortex Razor 1.5-8 earlier today in the classifieds. I've not used one but it might be one to consider.

ChrisAU, I guess I'm the odd man out on this. I would go with a Meopta Meopta 6x42, with a #4, or Z Plex reticle. I have them on 2 Roberts that I have. Great glass and I love the #4 reticle. Simple and easy.

I'm in the Leupold 2.5-8X camp. The first new rifle I ever bought for myself was a Ruger 77 RL in .257. I bought a Vari XIII 2.5-8X for it. That was a critter killin' son of a gun. The only way to improve one is by adding the B&C crosshairs.
