I have a Winchester Model 70 in 458 Win. Mag. Serial number indicates that it was produced in 1956. This rifle has a left hand action. Trying to find info on this particular variant is quite challenging. I’m trying to determine just how many might have been made. Great shooter. Bring on the zombie elephants. Any help anyone can give or direction to a resource would be appreciated. Thanks

Your rifle was not made in 1956. You may want to post this in the Winchester collectors forum here. This is actually the reloading forum.

Why would you say it was not made in ‘56?

Because Winchester didn’t make a left handed rifle until 1997. They never offered one in the pre 64 model 70s. It’s possible it is a converted left handed rifle. I have a 1941 model 70 that was converted to left hand.

Again Winchester never produced a pre 64 model 70 in left handed.

G&H converted pre-64s to left hand. I saw one in .375 at a safari shoot we put on at our local club.

Too close for irons, switching to scope...

I’ve had two converted Winchesters. My 35 Whelen was done by Bob West and the other was one of Charles Askins rifles. It was a 308 Norma mag converted by Kerr sporting goods.

I thought the LH guns began production in 1994. The two I have now are low numbers. One in 06 and 300 win mag. They run like polished rubies.
