I would strongly disagree with the idea that the 24 hour campfire's advice should be discounted.

In my most recent health situation, I came on here and mentioned my problem. In a short while, I received a PM from a retired cancer doc who told me exactly what I had, exactly what to do, and also told me what was going to happen. His email was (pardon the expression) dead nuts accurate.

I won't mention names, because he PM'd me in confidence, but this Camper saved my life.


As for the rest of my experience, I'll say that for just about everything, the Campfire can and will give you sound advice. Part of the problem is discerning which are the kooks, which are the true [bleep], and who actually knows something about the subject. This place has saved me a few trips to the ER over the years, and probably saved my life at least once.

I'm reminded of my tribulation with my Savage 99. I'd recently purchased one in 2003 in 308 WIN. I was trying to work up a load for it, and found I was having very sticky extraction on the second reload of the brass. A bunch of folks told me I was courting headspace problems and told me I was going to blow up the gun-- ignoring the load info I'd given that was 10% under MAX. One fellow from Canada asked me if I was using MIL brass. When I replied in the affirmative, he told me to swap it out for civilian brass and the problem would go away. I tried. It did. I still have a pile of mil-surp 308 brass, but the Savage has been doing well ever since.
