Anyone have any experience with the BPS in 28 gauge? I have a 28 ga Yildiz O/U and had a Franchi 48 but think I need a pump to try out.

I actually started with looking for a Wingmaster but kept finding the 870 Express at ridiculous prices. Found some BPS 28s for around $600

I had one years ago, wish I had it back.
Think it had a 26" barrel.
Nice little gun, more deadly than you would think.

I was looking for a BPS in 28 gauge, and found one "in stock" in .410 and bought it.
GREAT little shotgun, but I still wanted a 28, so I ended up buying a CZ O&U. 6 lbs. even.
GREAT little shotgun also! Now I have both to choose from.

The ONLY Browning I own is a BPS in .410 - used for home 'rabbit' control... Bought it only because I couldn't find an 870 in .410.. Great little gun - but, like most Brownings, they're pita to reassemble... I'm used to 'em, but the 870 is TONS better/easier.. YMMV..

I used them in 12 gauge for years for quail hunting. I liked them, because they throw the hulls at your feet. Mine had the magazine cut-off, which is nice. I sold them and went to Browning autos, but missed the pumps. I bought one last week, made in 81, still in the box, never fired for 400 bucks. The warranty info was in the box, 289 and change new.

Never tried one. However, they weigh 7 lbs, same as the 20 ga. I have lighter 12 ga guns. So, much as I like my 12 ga BPS, I can't get interested.

That’s exactly my problem with shotguns made for the American market, even quality notwithstanding — what the heck is the draw of a sub gauge when you make it on a 12 or a railroad tie frame and it weighs the same. Yeah, I know, it’s cheaper..

I just never found a BPS that felt good in my hands. Too much weight out there, too much receiver length for me.

Ithaca 37 28 Gauge...6 pounds.... May have to look around for one since they are listed as sold out... Subjective, but my vote is it handles better than most SxS's and O/U's....and may beat a Model 12 16Gauge for handling...which is saying something. And it will take a licking and not cry....

I use a bps upland special and I've also owned a bps field. I went through seven different shotguns before settling on the bps. Many of the ones I sent packing, were lighter. Aluminum receivers, plastic trigger gauards/ plastic trigger group housings, etc. The bps has a forged steel receiver, and a metal trigger group housing. I don't mind the weight when I touch off a brenneke black magic slug. Busting brush for ruffed grouse, snow shoe hare, ptarmigan, sharptail grouse and spruce grouse, I've occasionally spooked bears. With birdshot in the chamber, I've hit the tubular magazine cutoff to drop birdshot and replaced with a black magic slug. A quick shuck of the forearm and it's a fast set up for changing shells. The rib pitch is spot-on for a proper hold under the bird to give a clear field of view on flying shots, with the density of the pattern hitting the bird. That rib pitch also puts brenneke black magic slugs square on the bullseye at 75 yards. At 7 lbs 6 oz, it's heavy the end of the day, but so is a moose quarter lashed to your back. Surely, the lighter 28 gauge on the smaller receiver won't bother weight-conscious granola boys.

Looked at one recently. Just such a heavy gun for a petite little shell. They must be made on the same size receiver as the bigger shells. Nicely made gun, just heavy. I think a Browning/Winchester Model 12, Ithaca 28, or a 870 would be a better choice in 28 gauge. Something built down to scale. Little more lean.

My two cents only because I am a 28 gauge junkie and own way more than I should , but the bps 28 gauge is a quite a bit heavier than say the wingmaster or the new Ithaca out of Sandusky. I own all three and I absolutely love the Ithaca as far as the pumps go. As far as semi autos go 1100 sporting , franchi al48 or benneli ethos it’s hard to beat the al48 or the ethos in the field.

I never owned one but have shot three of them at skeet that belonged to fellow shooters. I liked them for skeet but have always had an O/U 28 so never got around to buying a pump 28. Now I’d probably buy the Ithaca 37 if I was getting a pump 28. I’ve become thoroughly enamored of my 16 gauge 37.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

Not a bps, but I have an 870 28 ga. Shot it steadily for 3 or 4 years. Haven't shot it for many years now.. Should get it out and use it. I can't imagine the bps would be a negative problem..
