Anyone else look at that every time it shows up, try to pronounce it, and think that it is one of the stupidest things to be created recently?

Air bed and breakfast.
Same as Vrbo.
I’m looking to buy an Airbnb/Vrbo

Too much work for too little a return.

Rental market is to strong to mess with it anymore.

Lot of work. Return is better but you have to have a lot of free time to deal with it.

Neighbor does it.

I'm not at all impressed, nor are the other neighbors.
7 or 8 houses on a dead end road 1/4 mile + long.
It brings in strangers from all over the country and world.
To stay overnight.

Just a hillbilly thing, maybe.
But we know each other, casually know the relatives/friends.
Recognize vehicles, or strangers.
This screws that up.
Used to be hackles went up if a strange car parked in a driveway,
or at the turnaround area. Now, you don't know if it's a "guest".

Shocked he does it.
A former trophy piece started it, he continues.
Being a little high minded, it doesn't suit his persona.
And I've found his listing. $40/night?
That's not near enough to let a stranger in my house while I
sleep. Not even close. And I hope I'm never desperate enough
to change my mind.

Beats hotels. We started using them for cold weather hunting trips with kids. Airbnb cabins are closest to the hunting ground. If you use the same one repeatedly bypass Airbnb for a discount. One we use loves us because we are low maintenance and clean up after ourselves. I get the feeling they aren't doing as well as they hoped.

It's also a sort of clearinghouse for vacation rent properties run by management companies.

Big draw around Nashville for negroes to use as weekend drug houses, drops, hideouts, raucous parties.

Look up Airbnb internal security group.

They have allegedly hired some of the best individuals in politics, military, media, and LE to mitigate serious assaults, rapes, and murders on the properties to keep the information from going viral and wrecking their business model.

A quick search pulled this article up from a known pos online source....YMMV

Trying to get modified zoning in place so that homeowners and working folk don’t have to put up those types of properties in their sleepy neighborhoods.

They are great for traveling with kids and if you don’t like to eat out. Just got home from a trip where we stayed in Airbnb’s. No owner on premise.

Yes, it's always best to use governing agencies to assist in dictating what one can and can't do with their own private properties.

We live near a big college town with a four season ski resort.
YMMV.

Rents top out at $1,400-$1,500/mo for 3 BR units
3-4 bedroom house in the resort brings $4,000-$5,000/mo (average) and stays rented 45 weeks a year minimum.

Either way, mine are all long term. I hate dealing with tenants in any capacity, it’s called passive income for a reason.

My neighbor does it here in Palm Springs.
On a good month. After, cleaning fees, mortgages, utilities he can clear 7-8k.

If you have a house in the right spot, you can make a lot of money. Friends of ours travel all summer and airbnb their place with the assistance of a management company and clear 30k a summer.

Like was mentioned, local zoning can be a real bitch with this stuff.

Then there is income tax, property taxes, insurances, and most resort communities have a bed tax of sorts.
Palm Springs has a nifty "Transient Occupancy Tax" @ 11.5%.

There's always a down day or two between clients just for cleaning alone, by years end those add up.

Everybody has their hands in your pockets.
It's seldom what it appears to be to those who've never done it.

We use VRBO and love 'em. Have stayed in many, and have another one booked for T'Giving. Our favorite one grosses at least $50K a year by my estimate. That may be exceptional, but maybe not.
