American Rifleman November 1953
Just wondering if this gentleman is active on this forum & does he still have the rifle?
(The pictures don’t look as nice since I had to reduce them significantly to fit the size limit here)

I was 8 months old then. I’m 68, young man looks 14 or so to me. He would be early eighties.

I had that magazine and lusted at that picture for a long time. I had a T set up like that but, it was a .300 and IIRC that one was a .250-3000. I'll have to go through the magazines and see if I still have it since I may have lost it in a flood. Thanks for reminding me!

Joe, let me know if you cant find your copy. I probably have one in my boxes.
Most of my American Rifleman Magazine collection are from 1939-1959. I also have some from 1960-1989.
Does anyone else here need specific issues? (Free, postage only)

If he was 14 years old when the magazine went to press he would've been born in 1939 making him 82 now. But, if the article was written in the summer of '53 for fall publication then the story would've happened during the 1952 season and he would've been born in 1938, 14 years earlier. Either way, it wasn't me - I was born in January 1953, and was only shooting BB guns by November of that year. grin

Jim, thank you for your gracious offer! I will search and see if it is in my collection that's going to my grandsons. You sir are a true gentleman.

Jim,
Off memory, can you recall if any of the old magazines had this advertisement? I have a handful of ads framed up, nothing too fancy. But this one has eluded my grasp. I wouldn’t to dissect a magazine just for an ad, so if you have an issue that is a partial, I’be more than happy.

I am aware that there are reproductions sold as metal signs, just not what I’m after.

Jake, I will look.
Does anyone have a guess as to what year(s) this ad appeared?

I’d say WWII judging by the text and maybe late in the war judging by the casual attitude or message of the advert. So maybe late 44 or 45.

It's a 1945 ad, possibly 1944 also. I bought my ad separate off of eBay, but they do look good framed.

My Dad bought me a Junior Life Membership to the NRA when I was 12. So, I had every copy from 68 to date. Then I bought a collection from 48 to the late 70's. I framed some issues like the Polar Bear and Lion. Unfortunately we had a pipe leak and soaked some of the boxes they were in when we moved. Luckily I was able to keep a complete set, mixing and matching my copies and the ones I bought. My hunting cabin is almost done. One of the first things going to the cabin is an old set of Oak Stack Bookcases full of my old American Rifleman. In coming years, if you hear tall tales that sound faintly familiar, I'm not above plagiarism. All those old framed Big Five will be on the walls too.

I appreciate the suggestions of 1944/45.

That is around 888 issues. If you did seven high you could cover around 105 ft of wall. laugh

Looking good! What will the finish be?
