I recieved a Dillon Square B to start rolling 9mm. I checked the setup and found that the crimp put a deep ring into bullet. I lessened the crimp but still have a minor ring on bullet. Is this normal or do I need to adjust more? Im using berrys 147 RN. I also have a small bulge below case but passes the drop in the barrel of a Glock, so im guessing the flare is a little much and getting slightly crooked bullets when seating that cause this?

I fought with my square deal in 9mm but I was loading 115 gr bullets. I don't have the crimp ring on my loads but do have a little "flare" just below the bullet. I guess "flare" is not exactly what it is, the case appears to be a hair smaller just below where the bullet stops so the case has an hour glass figure if you will. It is not much but maybe .003 or so.

Maybe try and put a little more flare on the case mouth before starting to seat the bullet.
It will get the bullet to square up to the case better.
And you don’t need a heavy crimp on 9mm.

Heavy, the flare is .017 than a sized case, I was thinking to lower it to .010? The factory settings on the die the crimp squeezed a deep groove around bullet. I will adjust crimp more to prevent ring. Thanks guys

^^^^^^^^ This, also found out Berrys are extremely soft, the plating isn’t very thick so it’s easy to mar the jacket with seating plug or crimp.

No need to crimp 9mm just smooth out the flare!

I put little to no crimp on the bullet. I pulled one and still have a slight indent ring you can see and feel. Im calling it good and will load em up as such. Shouldn't have an issue with setback. I know 9mm is not much recoil, but was more concerned about bullet hitting loading ramp going into chamber which can create setback. I think I have my settings for now. Thanks all again.

Easy to check for set back, just take a loaded round and push the bullet against something solid, Ive never been able to get a bullet to seat deeper pushing with as much force as I can,

also a slight indentation won't hurt a thing as long as the plating or coating isn't being scaped off!

Over thinking it just means your paying attention which is never a bad thing!

I read that you were loading 147's over N320, that's a combo I want to test as soon as I can get my hands on that powder!

Thanks. Im running 3.4 grains, clean, still working on accuracy but seems ok. Shot it in Glock 17. Need to run it over my chrono next. Im also interested in N340 but lucked out and grabbed the n320, with my original intent to make a good subsonic round. 3.2 of the N320 is soft and functions with 147 grain.

Soft shooting is what Im looking for!

3.2 is a powder puff load. Fun to shoot! I made some up for my girlfriend to practice with.
