The purpose of congress is the same as the purpose for any government of any form: to take wealth from those who have earned or created it, spend it on things the people who earned or created it don't want, all while skimming off as much as possible for their cronies and for themselves. Has been true since the dawn of time ... or at least since the dawn of government.

I always scratch my head and wonder why there are some people who complain about gridlock. It seems the times when there is gridlock are the only times I feel "safe" from the acts of Congress.

Just when you think all is lost the House passes a $1 billion package for Israel’s Iron Dome system.
The vote was a blowout: 420-9 - 8 Democrats and 1 Republican voted “no,” and Hank Johnson and AOC voted "present. Which is a pretty impressive accomplishment for Hank - generally he doesn't have a clue where the hell he is.
