Football and basketball in H.S.

Quit playing baseball preferred fishing in the spring/summer. Then after H.S. what do I do start playing bar league softball. A few years of that and said enough! Didn't like spending my summers on a dusty baseball diamond.

I was an average football player on a great team that was undefeated my last two years of HS. Most games were quite one sided.
Having my left knee dislocated during practice didn’t help my planning ability.
And I ran track, distance races, 1 and 2 mile.

All district football, state qualifier mile in track. They wouldn’t give us our football letter if we didn’t run track. I hated track.

Played anything I could - basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, even the bowling team. No football, but I would have if we had a team.

That is why I am always on the campfire learning stuff - I didn't get into the hunting game until later in life.

Coaches put my name on the annual plaque that hangs in the school trophy case as best senior football player. I wasn’t the best, but I worked hardest and had the best attitude. Honorable mention all state offensive guard. Defensive captain/called plays as the outside linebacker. We weren’t very good. 6-3 each year. Always lost to the 2 schools in our playoff division that had twice the enrollment that we did.

Basketball through sophomore year. Wasn’t terrible, but preferred hunting and making money farming for my buddies stepdad in the winter. High school basketball coach was mad I wouldn’t play. He got over it and we’d quail hunt together.

Played 1st base. Just as a time filler, never really enjoyed it.

Played golf in college on scholarship. Went as far as taking the PGA’s Player Ability Test (qualified) but was burned out. Picked it back up 5 years ago at age 37. Current USGA handicap is +1.4. I’m slightly better now than I was in college and much longer off the tee. Funny how that happens.

We had a little football get together last week, four dead out of 23. Those guys got old😀 22, 65, 80, 82 are dead. Four Allstate players on that team, 65, 64, 26, 75. Got beat by state champs in semifinals.
Lily white team.
