I have a Winchester 70 in .30/06. The load is a 180 grain interlock round nose at 2700 fps.
What do you guys think of this for a moose at close range. From 10 yards to 80 yards.
Other rifle I have is a .303 Lee Enfield with a 180 grain RN at 2400 fps. Also have a .308 with 150's at 2800fps, and a 7x57 with 139 grainers at 2800fps.

I have a 220 grain load for the .30/06 I just remembered, 220 g Sierra RN at 2400 fps. It kicks like horse.

I think any of those rifles you have listed, there wouldn't be a problem in taking a moose.
Wishing you all the best on your hunting adventures.
I'd prolly take the rifle that feel the best in your hands.

Seems to me a 30-06 with a good 180 grain bullet is about as good as it gets with reasonable range shots on moose. I’m a stickler for proper shot placement, especially over the whizz-bang magnum choices.
I know a guy who shot an elk in the butt with his 300WSM and a light bullet, his buddies did find the elk days later. I thought he was pulling my leg talking about a larger gun, come to find out he was serious.

I've never shot a moose, but it's hard to argue against a 30-06 for just about anything on this continent?

Canadians been killing moose with 303 's since it was invented. Alaskans use the 30-06 as well .They are adequate but one can allways.make a case for larger calibers with higher capacity cases. Mb

I think you're fine. Probably better for rib shots than shoulder shots though. But I wouldn't pass on a quartering towards shot if it was that or no moose.

I wouldn’t hesitate with the 06

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

For their size moose are surprisingly easy to kill. Just let the air out. You’ll be fine. MAGA

I was in Wyoming on a mule deer hunt in 1975. Two guys were hunting moose on a walking hunt. Both using 30-06s. A female saw them and charged them. It took 3 shots to bring her down. They said she really scared them because they did not expect a charge. She had little bitty antlers. I think they were atypical. Anyway, I gathered from their conversation, they would have preferred a heavier caliber. Its all about shot placement. Seems to me a heavier caliber might allow for slight errors in shot placement.

Mb Or larger calibers with exactly the same capacity case. ;o) Just sayin'... To CarlsenHighway, I think the loads you listed would be OK. If you could find some 200 grain Nosler Partitions - even better. Rex

I've never shot a moose, but it's hard to argue against a 30-06 for just about anything on this continent? I think the 30-06 is fine for North American animals, but sometimes the conditions make me want more bullet weight and diameter. Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

I have shot a few moose with a 30-06, not a problem I would use a good 180gr. bullet.

Will work … would stepping up to a partition, bonded, or mono be an option?

Still trying for moose #1. My tent is still drying and my bug bites healing, after another 14 days in Alaska. I carried a 30-06 with the 168 ttsx and felt mostly confident. What the area lacked in moose, it made up for in brown bears. The times I wished for a bigger gun had nothing to do with moose.
