Eyeing the Grade II field octagon model. Thoughts? Plan to use open sighted or possibly peep. Have a tackdriver bolt.
Planned use, fun gun, plinker, and some hunting, for me and son.

If you're looking for a lever 22, you won't be disappointed in the browning. I've used one for years and have yet to experience a problem. You might be surprised how accurate it is too.

Looking real hard at the 2 grade II field grade/silver receiver, nice to my eyes, hard on the wallet. Will want to lighten trigger I know, but nothing else to be concerned from what I have heard about them.

I've been using a Grade II BL-22 as a farm gun for about 5 years now. Shoot it often, gets cleaned once a year need it or not. Hasn't disappointed me yet. Accurate and fast to cycle.

They are a great little rifle if you get lucky enough to get one with a decent trigger. It's very difficult to find anyone that works on them. I do all my own trigger work, but as soon as I took a look at an exploded view of the BL22 I wouldn't think of taking it apart. The trigger is they're weak point.

Hate to think for Browning how many sales they lose due to triggers that heavy, goes for all guns with 'extreme - litigation' triggers.

For best accuracy results, would you buy the short barreled BL-22 or the longer octagon barrel with the silver receiver (a pretty costly gun !) ?

Field report.
Well I took my BL22 FLD out today, bought it on 4 of 07. Shoots great right out of the box, I was using Federal bulk ammo HP's at ranges from 25 yards to 50 yards and variable between them. I agree that the trigger could be a little lighter, but its not too bad. The gun functioned flawlessly, although a soda can at 50 yards was difficult for me. (52 year old eyes, and trifocals) I need to do a lot more plinking before using it for hunting. The recessed crown is a little on the sharp side so if you have a bore guide it helps. The Browning isn't quite as fragile as the Marlin Mdl. 39 with its ejector, and the forearm is shaped more to the gun and not clubbie.
Wolfchief I gave a little over $600 for mine but had to travel a bit to find one, as only full line dealers can sell the octagonal version, and I didn't want to pay Gander Mtn. prices.
All in all I feel its a great gun and would buy it again.

I would feel much more comfortable if I could hit golf balls consistently before taking it to the field. I did much better with my Remington 572 with a 3-9x scope. Like everything however it a mater of practice, learning the gun.

I am thinking of whether to get the 24 inch or the 20 inch BL22, is there much of an accuracy adavantage to the 24 inch?
