I sent an email to Barnes asking what some of their bullets minimum impact velocities were on some of the bullets I use and this is the information I got back. Figured I'd share if others were curious like myself.

.277 129 gr. LRX- 1400 fps

.284 120 gr TTSX- 1700 fps
.284 139 gr. LRX- 1400 fps
.284 145 gr. LRX- 1500 fps

.308 150 gr. TTSX- 2000 fps
.308 168 gr. TTSX- 1500 fps
.308 175 gr. LRX- 1500 fps
.308 180 gr TTSX- 1500 fps

Love me some barnes. I wonder if they made some changes as I have an email from barnes couple years back regarding the difference 165 and 168 for the 30 cal.

“ The 0.308" 165gr TTSX is a shorter ogive than the 0.308" 168gr TTSX. We offer both for different cartridges to work within SAAMI COAL limits. The 308 168gr works well in the 308 WIN and 30-06 which allow more exposed bullet to be seated out further. The 165gr was designed for cartridges more like the 300 WIN MAG which require a shorter ogive to work within SAAMI limits.
When handloading, you can use either in a 300 WIN MAG just realize with the 168/175gr that you will need to seat it out a little further that the SAAMI max COAL and check proper fit and function in your particular firearm.
They all function to similar velocities. The 168gr and 175gr LRX will open up at a lower velocity (around 1600 ft/s) than the 165gr (around 1800 ft/s). For best performance we recommend keeping impact velocity a few hundred feet above this minimum.

I guess all they would have to do is make the hollow Cavity deeper or wider.

The .308 150 TTSX was a shocker for me. Kinda neuters it a bit if you take the reps advice to keep the impact velocity a few hundred FPS above the minimum.

I always have tried to keep Barnes north of 2000 anyway.

Those are some of the same bullets I load and jives with what they told me, I've slowly switched from TTSX's to LRX's for a bunch of our rifles, no complaints.

I wonder the same regarding the .224 TTSX’s.
It has been months since I saw any of the .375 LRX, and longer for the .224’s.
I did find a box of 7mm 145 LRX yesterday.

Kind of a random side not but I recovered my first and only Barnes TTSX this season out of the neck of a blacktail buck shot at a range of about 50 yards. It was a factory 120 grain load fired from a 7mm-08. The deer dropped like a ton of $hit but I found the bullet lodged in the meat on the opposite side of its neck. The bullet didn’t seem to mushroom quite like they normally do. The bullet velocity at that range should have been right around 2900-3000 fps I would think.

The .30-06 with 168's should be able to operate past 400 yards then. Thinking Elk at 450 ?

That one and the 7mm 150 are the two that jumped out to me.

The data below was generated with the Berger ballistic app for an average 168g .308 load @ 500 yards with 39 deg and 4,000 ft elevation .

A 30-06 load running 2,800 FPS + will should be impacting at about 2K at 500 yards. and have about 16 inches of drift.

Can you get numbers on calibers a bit larger.......say up to around .458! memtb

Local store has a few boxes of 55gr TTSX availability if you need them

I shot a moose at 547 yards with the 308 150 ttsx. I hit it quartering towards me on the front of the shoulder and it exited behind the ribs on the off side. It was on its feet for a few seconds and then started walking and went down. The bullet penetrated a long ways and seemed to do a fair amount of damage. It started at about 3350 fps from a 300 wsm with superformance powder.
