I'm looking to reload 150 partitions and possibly 150 TSXs for my .280 and 160 NP's for the 7 Mag. Anyone have any favorite loads for the bullets? I will be using them for everything between deer and elk. Thanks, Clint

While the 280 & 7 Wby are my two top cartridges, I only shoot Remington Express ammo in the 280 and handloads for the Wby which obviously is no 7 Rem Mag. I use nothing but Swift bullets in any of my shooters.

When I had a 280, I used a max load of IMR4831 with 150gr NPs. Not sure of the MV but deer and elk didn't like them.

I've had great luck with RL22 and IMR4831 in both with 140-160gr bullets.

I have found that Retumbo works great with 140-160gr bullets in my 7mm RM, great speed and excellent accuracy with accubonds.

No comment on the 7mag, but I like IMR-4831 for 150s in the .280.

Thanks, Clint My current loads for each with those bullets wts: .280Rem: 61grs R-22/150 Solid Base or Partition/WLR Primers/Rem Brass/Seated to touch the lands. 1" at 100yds @ 3000fps in a 24" Rem700SS 7mmRM: 66grs R-22/160 Accubond/CCI250 Primers/Seated to touch the lands/ 1 hole groups at 100yds @ 3080fps. I cannot say about pressure if you use TSXs. As always, guns, powder lots, etc vary...work up.

I like RL22 in the 280; when I had one, I used 61-RL22-140 Nosler Partition for a hair under 3100;in the 7 Rem Mag, a favorite with 140's is 68 RL22 for 32500-3300, depending on barrel.Recently 68-70 of RL25 with 160's, again depending on YOUR barrel. Velocity is right at 3100 with my douglas-barreled custom, with 68-RL25-160 Partition.Hope this helps.
The 280 Remington is overbore.

If I were loading for a .280 and a 7mmRM, and I do, that would be the way I'd go, and it is in fact the way I usually go...140s in the .280 and 160s in the 7mmRM. If you want a good 140 load for either: .280- 139 or 140/59grs R-19 OR 57.5grs VV-N160 at 3150fps in a 24" bbl. Accuracy has been very good for me with both of those and with several bullets. Again, I don't shoot TSX's so all bets are off with those and these loads. 7mmRM- 140 (Id advise a well constructed one such as Partition) 70grs R-22 at 3300fps in a 25.6" bbl. Again no TSX data, but that works well with several 140s in my 7mmRM.

I used 160 nosler partitions over 65 grains of Reloader22 in my 7mm rem mag for 3050fps.
I used 55 grains of IMR 4350 with 150 nosler partitions in my 280s before I switched to 140 grain bullets in the 280.

I suppose I'll have to run to the store today and pick up some R-22. I'd normally load up 140s in the .280 but I'm planning on using it for elk and letting Dad use my 7MM this year. I thought about trying 160s in the .280 but I figured the 150s would be fine at .280 velocity. Thanks for the help. Clint

RH What have you now? I downsized to a 7mm-08. I have a Rem 600 that I converted a long time ago and couldn't see getting rid of it. My dad got it for me when I was 12 so the 280 had to go. I had a couple of different 700s in the chambering. I still think it is a great round. RH

Clint: 140's,150's or 160's will all work fine for the elk if of good construction, and placed properly. Pick what you like based on accuracy, trajectory, whatever your criteria.Don't drive yourself crazy. I'd use the 140 Partition loaded to 3100 or so any old day.

For the 7RM:
RL25 under a 150grBT = 3200fps
RL25 under a 150grPT = 3200fps
It's that simple.

Im told by sources that should know that a well contructed 140 at 3100 give or take, will be just fine for elk, and I know it will be for deer.

+1 on the Retumbo in the 7mm magnum......I think I was a half grain below Hodgon's listed max.
