yea the one i am looking at looks to be about half that long. and the seller says "There is a spring at the front of the front mount, so the scope needs to be long enough to reach almost to the rear sight dovetail to reach the spring" and how yours above is slanted on the tube this one is square. here is a photo,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The end of the box is normally marked under the SAV M-99 as for the Weaver K 2 1/2 or for the Weaver K4 & KV. That box looks like it states something else. I can't read it.

You better make sure you have the scope that mount was made to fit! Ask the seller what about the inside diameter and then check that against your scope. That mount will not fit a K3, if that is what you had in mind.

That front tube is for the Weaver K4 or KV L series only. The scope will be marked with and S inside a diamond and the letter L under it. Very hard to find the correct one!
The outside diameter of the objective bell is about 1.346"
Rick, the dimension you posted is for the 60 Series scopes which won't fit any Stith.

I don't know what you mean by 'standard'
There are 3 series: S, L, and the 60s. All different sizes.
Does anyone recognize that B.C. 2 3/4 X D.A. designation?

This is why I always get my Stith/scopes as a set.. BC - Bear Cub? Realize that I know next to nothing about old scopes.. just throwing things out. Does look like the Stith Bear Cub scope came in a 2 3/4x power.

Thanks Rory - duh, not enough coffee for me I guess.
So... it might be for the Stith Bear Cub scope which happens to be a 26mm tube size in that power.
Olskool, what is your goal here? Do you want a period correct setup or do you just want to scope your rifle?

Aha.. full name: "Stith Bear Cub 2 3/4x Double Adjustable Scope"
I think that's pretty definitive. "BC 2 3/4 X DA"

As far as I know the rear mounts for the 99's for the same scope diameter all had the same centerline height, if this is 26mm it might be the same center as the 1" and you could use a thin shim to put it on a 1" scope. You would then have to look for a 1" front tube, the tubes for some other mounts were the same and I see front tubes listed by themselves quite often, just make sure the dovetail mount is compatible, there were different types. It would all depend on getting it reasonable enough to put more money into it. If you knew someone with a lathe you could get a reducer turned for the front for use with any scope that was smaller diameter until the correct size tube was found.

my goal is to have a period correct setup, but if it doesn't work out i will be talking to Mr. lightfoot,,,,,,,,,,,,,, That mount will be "period correct" if the period you are looking for fits any Savage 99 that would have been scoped with a Stith post WWII - and primarily in the 1950s. Again, you should ask the seller for the ID of the front tube. With that information you should be abe to determine if you can find a scope that fits. Sometimes things stay NIB for a reason. And in this case that might have something to do with finding the correct scope for the mount. Best of luck!

Has anyone put together a list of what Stith mounts were made and what scopes will work with them?
