I have a model 23 Winchester 20 gauge.....no gold or special effects....it says pigeon grade on the barrels..... My estimat is that it's 45 (or so) years old.....not only still new in the box.....but the box is still in the original shipping carton.
Can someone estimate it's current value.....and any other information such as problems people might have had with them. Any info will be appreciated.

Great shotguns, superb quality. I had a 12 gauge which kicked like hell......sold it quickly.
Wished I had bought a 20 gauge.
Depending on barrel length, I'm gonna guess between $3K and $3,500.

I shoot 23's. A 20 gauge in new condition will fetch $2,200-2,600 depending on choke configuration. It should come with a Winchester hard case. Add $200 for that.

Should have a nitride finished receiver, raised vent rib and pigeon engraved on bottom of the receiver.

That's the 2 bbl hunting set that was offered. There were 500 sets to be build but there is reason to believe they didn't make all of them. Comes in a leather hard case with snap caps and oiler. 20 & 28 gauge barrels.

Found this on another site: The Winchester Model 23 was built by Olin-Kodensha in Japan and introduced in 1978. The list price in 1981 was $1,150.-. The Model 23 differs in design from the earlier Models 21 and 24, the latter being possibly the ugliest SxS ever produced in the States. The Model 23 was offered in six versions plus some "commemorative" grades (one such being the Grand Canadian). When discontinued in 1987, the Pigeon grade listed for $1,460.-, the Classic was $1,750.- while 28 gauge and .410 bore were priced at $1,850. A "Custom" two barrel set (20 & 28 gauge with full fancy walnut and a fitted leather luggage-style case was listed at $4,650.-. Current values range from $500.-(poor) up to $3,400.-(Exc.) for the Light and Heavy Duck grades while the Golden Quail may go up to $4,500.- or more with .410 bores bringing an extra 10%.

If you want to see real prices, go to www.gunsinternational.com and search for Dawson Doubles. Dennis Dawson, from San Antonio, has a room full of model 23's in various models and gauges. You'll find real market prices there.

I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally
