I'm not gonna take pictures of fish next to it underwater, but I don't wanna have to baby it or end up with a rusty POS.

IMO, cerakote is a cosmetic finish, mascara for men,

Coat it if you want, but that won't make the rifle a weatherproof, no maintenance weapon.

Birdsong can at least coat the majority of the parts including the firing pins , bolts and such, but even that can scratch and chip.

What coating isn’t a cosmetic finish?

A ceramic coating in regards to rust protection, is not the main intention of said product, but you already knew that,

there are better options than ceramic for weather proofing.

Ok, what? And which one provides 100% protection and isn’t cosmetic?

If you really care and you really want it weatherproof have it nitrided.

Or if you’re into colorful camo jobs or whatever you can have it painted but it’ll be but a shadow of the finish nitride is.

Or you could jerk it out of the stock a couple weeks before season and smear it down with Johnson’s paste wax, sight in and hunt all season and tear it down for a cleaning when you’re tagged out.

Do a toothbrush whack a mole job on the stock.
You cant fugg it up.
Have a granite like look that changes hue in different light.
Used a good matte clear coat over it.

My 3 fails at spray painting a stock on here .
Well documented.

Toothbrush whack a mole worked for me.

YMMV.

Dark green base coat
Black
Brown
Slightly lighter green.

Or one of the above for a base then use the others and even some other natrual earth tone colors.

Practice 1st to see how long a strike series will last before refresh
And get excess off your tooth brushes before going to the stock.
Work with speed and rhythm.
Let each color dry a day.
