A local gun store has a Beretta APX for $399. The more reviews I read the more it sounds like it's pretty solid as far as striker fired pistols go.
Are there any other full size pistols in this price range worth considering for a home defense gun?

I have a compact and a centurion frames. It doesn't suck as a platform at all. Mine has been reliable and easy to shoot well.
Holsters are not available from all makers, and the sights are apparently an epic PITA to change even with a sight pusher tool.

I've never seen a Beretta that wasn't reliable.
Lotsa people may not like 'em, but they just work.

I have a full size APX FDE that I bought 2019. They are a well kept secret as far as polymer striker fired pistols go. They can’t be beat for quality vs value. I paid $399 and Beretta was offering a $100 rebate at the time so it was $299 + tax. It has replaced my 92F as my full size self defense pistol.

I should add that mine has mainly shot crappy steel cased 9mm and had had zero malfunctions in a few thousand rounds.
Even shooting Wolf the ammo cost surpassed purchase price quickly.

LeakyWaders, there is absolutely nothing is wrong with my 92F, it has served me well since 1986. Decided to try polymer striker fired pistols. The Beretta APX is what I purchased based on history with other Beretta products. The APX is lighter and carries mor ammo for me. I went from 3 - 15 round magazines to 1 - 17 round and 2 - 21 round magazines.

Of all the full sized 9mm's these days the Beretta is my favorite. Has all of the features of the Sig 320 with a better bore axis, more comfortable grip, and I think the triggers are a little better. The APX is straight up a world class pistol that takes a back seat to no one.
