I’ve got a TIkka 512 in 9.3x74. Really like it, both barrels shoot under an inch.
I actually like it as a dirty day gun because it’s easy to take apart and dry. My only worry is the plastic barrel spacer and water getting under there. It’s a bitch to put back in after taking out, but I kinda like the look better with the spacer in than out.
What would your preference be?

I like the look better when the spacer is installed. In fact, I think appearance is the spacer's only function. If the gun were mine, I would probably use the spacer, take it out at the end of a day of bad weather so I could clean the gun, and leave it out until I thought I had time to install it.

I'm pretty sure it is just cosmetic. I'd just check to make sure the barrels shoot as well and regulate without it, and if they do I would not put it back. I have a similar sort of double rifle, and the gap between the barrels doesn't bother me a bit. It seems to shoot and regulate well without it too.
But if it looks better to you with it in - enough to make up for the trouble of taking it out and putting it back in - then have at it. I definitely would be wary of rust under it though, it is almost ideal for that, if the rifle's used in damp conditions.

I assume (my 2nd grade teacher would have said "ASSUME makes an ass of you and me") that your Tikka has a Valmet/Krieghoff sliding-hood lockup action? If so, and it does regulate without the spacer, I'd leave it off on the general principle of "if it ain't functional, get rid of it." The cosmetics are really not relevant on a working gun like that. Just my opinion, of course, but I have my reasons....
