I have a Wby Ultralight in 300WBY with a Leup Vx6 in a Near 1 piece mount. For a light weight rifle its heavy and not balanced.
I am thinking about putting a old Vari x3 3.5-10x40. Not sure what a good light weight mount to choose. I have used alot of leup D.D but had to return the last 2 sets. I have only used Tally light weight one piece, they did not hold the scope. It was a heavy scope though on a
7mm ultra mag
I am open to scope and mount ring suggestions

I use the Talley lightweights on my 300 Weatherby, same on both son-in laws 300 Wby, grandson’s 300WSM my cousin has them on 300 Win& Weatherby all used in rough country elk hunts all have worked well. I just tighten them to specified torque & kill stuff.

Mule Deer says that rifles in the .300 mag class are where scopes start to come apart in short order. I believe his “test bed” for scope durability is a .300 WinMag. Not sure how the Vari-X IIIs stack up in durability, but it’s something to consider, along with the mounts. An older model, however rugged, my have used up some of its “lives”, depending on the use it’s had.

No mags here, but where I can, I’m using Warne bases and their Mountain Tech rings, but still have some Burris Signature Zee (with the inserts) as well. Their Signature XTRs have six screws per ring and the inserts.

OP: With your setup, I'd go with steel Warne Maxima bases and rings; they're not heavy enough to worry about.

I use alot of the Warne/Leupold bases with either Warne Mountaintech or Leupold Backcountry rings. Leupold also has a very nice Backcountry ring/base set up that is similar to a Talley but maybe a little more robust.

Does a Brake reduce the life span of a scope? The Varix was on my 338 win mag

I have Talley fixed and detachable steel mounts on my heavier rifles. But i have had no issues with the Talley light weights if set up properly. I put Form-A-Gasket on the inside of the rings and on the screws too or blue lock tight. Use a torque wrench and don't over tighten the base screws or they will strip.

I believe the number is 20 inch pounds but check with Talley on this. I think the Gasket material reduces shock very slightly and I have never had one slip that has this rubbery goo on it, or get scope rash.
