Hate to be a powder slut but this stuff is around, or it was earlier today. Burn rate a little faster than H4831SC. Anyone used it?

in the past I'm pretty sure JB has posted his experience with it. Hopefully he will chime in. I thought about ordering some a while back when I saw it available.

Excellent. Seen a few reports of high temp sensitivity (popping primers on warm days after working up load on cold day) but its the interweb hard to be sure. I've popped primers on factory loads on very hot days in ole Tejas...

I don't think VV makes a bad powder. I have heard 160 and 560 were some of the best in a 280. I use a bunch of 570 in my Mashburn. Works like a champ and is very reliable, no matter the temps.

I've had great luck with their pistol powders, for sure.

I’ve used VV 160 in the 6.5x284 for long range competitions… USAMU used it as well in the same cartridge, back 15-20 years ago.

Anybody run it in the Swede?

I used it in a 338 WM with 225g bullets. Accurate and stable for temp variations. Little or no velocity loss in freezing temps and about the same velocity where loads were developed.

I've been using VV N160 for my finicky .270 Win for over a decade. No complaints at all!

I run VV N 160 , 3 rifles, in 6.5 Swede and 6.5 Norwegian in a variety of bullet weights...it is always is the accuracy winner. Really low velocity spreads. If you don't know your throat and/or case capacity though, you can build some pressure. It has been my experience, that with an imaginary graph of pressure and velocity, IMR 4831 as an example is a fairly straight inclined line as charge weight increases. 160 seems to me, to be a rising curve as charge weight increases. As you get to the upper end of operating pressure, velocity and pressure rise pretty steeply.

Vv-570 is the velocity champ on my 26 Nos. It’s a coarse stick, won’t flow thru my Uniflow, it stacks. I remove the drop tube, drop a near full charge in a scale pan, tweak to the right weight. It reportedly burns pretty hot, is high energy and probably not very barrel friendly. But, I don’t shoot the 26 that much, it’s a hunting rifle, not a target gun.

Well...I should have bought some. It was gone in about an hour. Now I know.

Use N165 in my 280 AI’s & it is very accurate.

Use N550 in my 300 WSM & it is very accurate.

I will try N160 in my 280’s if they don’t like the N165.

Vv-165 is the accuracy champ in my 6.5-284 with 140 VLD’s. I found distinct accuracy nodes, some near quarter MOA out of the Krieger barrel. 2,950 was top velocity.

I started using RL-17 for solid 3K fps. It’s sub MOA, mostly half or better. But with gradual increases in charge, no sharp accuracy nodes like with 165. Accuracy did drop off a bit around 3,100 fps. Like they say, when you see pressure signs with RL-17, you already over. Never saw pressure signs. Just dropped back enough for optimal speed and accuracy.

It’s a hunting rifle, so no big deal, just thought it was interesting.
