I’m looking at a used 300 wby with a Leupold vari x iii 3.5-10x
Rifle is blued with a weatherby black synthetic stock
Looks to be in very good condition and I believe fired very little.
Asking price is $999.
Questions-
How is the quality of factory weatherby synthetic stocks?
Is the MKV rifle noted for poor, good or excellent accuracy?
How’s $999 as a price for this?

Thanks

I have worked with several MK V’s in 300 Wby including one that I own. I have not found one yet that I could not get to shoot under MOA at given distance. The synthetic stocks are not custom by any stretch, but sufficiently functional.

I would think the price you state is not too bad if the scope is in near new condition. Wby magnums are best appreciated by a reloader as the commercial ammo is, i think, ridiculously expensive.

If you have a 300 Wby you would have no need of any other hunting rifle for big game.

The Mark V, by and of itself is an excellent action. Many were made with very light pencil thin contour barrels and you cannot shoot them like heavier barreled rifles for accuracy. The stocks, if composite, are excellent, most were made for Weatherby by Bell and Carlson. The factory plastic stocks, while harder than say the Remington/Ruger "tupperware" are still junk. Caution on the barrel...Weatherby magnums are hot calibers and they are throat burners. I would never by a used Weatherby rifle without bore scoping it to see what kind of condition it is in. Unless of course you plan to re-barrel it anyway. Best of luck sir!!!!

Most people that buy 300 Weatherby Mark V's do not shoot them much. I have never seen any Mark V in 300 Weatherby not shoot very well with the exception of the Ultralight #` contour barrel.

My 300 Ultralight shoots very well.
Weatherby did have to repair my trigger as it a lot of take up. They also changed out the stock do to some unfilled areas, they replaced it with a different color scheme. There customer service was great. Asked them to range certify while it was there, they did that to. 180 Barnes TTSX .52 and .72 . I cant hold that tight but under a inch at 100. I put a Leupold VX6 3-18 on it in A Near manufacturing 1 piece base. And before that scope went haywire it grouped consistently under a inch with 180 Nosler BT and a charge of IMR 7828 @ 3150
With max charge according to Nosler manual speed was 3250+. So the barrel seems fast.
I like em. Get it😁

There’s more 300 Wby’s on the market for sale at very reasonable prices than any other chamber mostly because folks buy them shoot them once and can’t handle the round/recoil. You can always get a great deal on one. They’ve made their reputation worldwide for well over a half century killing most any game animal that walks the planet. Good luck with yours.

I'd rather shoot a 340 than a 300. Better recoil curve for me.

I would like a 340 but have a 338 win mag. My brother just got rid of his 340 Accumark to buy a 338 lapua. His words were “I bet I reget this” that gun shot really well
