This is the first deer I have killed on my new place. I bought the old overgrown farm in March and have worked to put in food plots and some habitat improvements. I have mostly does on game cameras and one decent young 10 point. I said I would kill the first deer to come in range this season. During archery season I had 2 different does that stayed just out of range. This morning was opening day of primative arms season. At about 8 am this buck was coming up a creek bottom and presented a shot. On other hunts I probably would have let him walk, but I am out of meat in the freezer and I wanted to kill a deer this morning. Wolf 50 caliber. Leupold 3.5x10 VXIII, 90 grains of Blackhorn with a 295 grain Powerbelt. The shot was about 75 yards down a steep bank and the deer was hard quartering away. High shoulder shot and exited the base of the neck. Bang flop. I think 90 grains is a bit light for this bullet, but it gives the best accuracy with this rifle.

Probably a good buck to cull.
He will be good eating regardless.
Looks like 90 grains is plenty, no reason to go heavier for deer.
👍👍

Never apologize for killing a deer that meets your standards. This is the 24H campfire, not QDMA.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

My last Kentucky buck was about that size though a 6 pt., the load that gives best accuracy is what I shoot I could care less what the manual says.
