A find for the serious collector and simply one of the finest knives of its type from a Master. Floyd E. Brown. Brown was a highly skilled maker who was active at a time when the industry was just getting going. Information on Brown is very difficult to come by. He started making knives in the late 1960's and as near as I've been able to determine he was active until sometime around 1980. It appears as though he was well-known among the custom knifemaker's circles. Well-known maker Bob Levine, a voting member of the Knifemaker's Guild and founder of the Alaska Knifemaker's Guild, list Floyd Brown and Gil Hibben as his teachers. I believe this knife was likely made in the 1970's. Brown was certainly an exceptionally talented maker and his work is extremely clean. He was an early member of the Knifemaker's Guild. 1986 was the last time he was listed in the directory, although I don't think he was active for a couple of years prior to that. His knives are very difficult to come by.
