Never played with a lo wall before just curious what people’s preferences are regarding scopes for these. Not sure if they have some idiosyncrasies like the ruger no 1. I’ve been eyeing over the 2021 lo walls with the octagon barrels. Caliber will probably be 243 or if I can find a 6.5x55. Thanks

Purchased a Winchester Model 1885 Rimfire Low Wall reproduction awhile back. Just didn’t like the look of a modern scope. Ordered a Wm. Malcolm-3xs Short Telescopic Riflescope from Hi-Lux Optics. Needed customizing by a gunsmith for proper mounting but very satisfied with the outcome. Looks period correct and works perfectly.

I own a 1885 High Wall in 7 mag and put a gloss Leupold 3-9X40 on it in Conetrol mounts. It looks awesome. I too am eyeballing the 6.5x55 low wall, but sadly no one makes a gloss scope anymore that I am aware of. Leupold custom shop might do it and I'd get something in the 2.5-8X36 or 3-9X40 range would be nice.

I’m thinking it’ll be very similar to a high wall. From looking at the low wall I’d say that there are two things to pay attention to - first is appearance. I went with a gloss Nikon pre Monarch 3x9 on my current high wall. Looks a helluva lot better than a new matte Burris (great scope BTW). Second is ring height so you can easily get your thumb on the hammer. My 1885 had crazy low rings on it when I bought it. Most online posts had all kinds of speculative nonsense about rings for the 1885. I wound up putting a high front and medium rear gloss Leupold on it and the scope tube is not flexed. It can be with the wrong height rings. From the looks of the low wall it will require the same setup. It’s a PITA to buy 2 sets of rings but I couldn’t find individual rings to buy. If my experience with multiple 1885s is anything to go by you’ll love the rifle. I’m a total fan boy for them.

Post script: a clean, simple looking quality gloss scope is the way to go. No huge optics. I’m pretty devoted to either a fixed 4x or quality 3x9 that doesn’t have a huge objective and/or eye piece for my hunting needs in the hardwoods.

Probably just use a m8 4x28 I have on hand, and get some Talleys to go with the base the come with the rifle. Thanks for the replies. I can see that medium or even high rings might be in order for hammer manipulation

My Hornet has 6x36 gloss and is in Burris bases/rings.

I picked up a used LW that came with a little, gloss Burris 2-7 compact.
Was going to sell the scope but I really like it. About the perfect size and has been stable as far as zero.
We’ll see if it continues.

Let us know if the Compact works well. I’ve been wondering if the tube is long enough.

Swarovski Z3 3-9x36 would also be a great scope. # 4 reticle would really be sweet on a Low Wall.

I have a few Winchester Low & High Walls, modern and vintage. The vintage ones all have Unertl scope blocks on them, and I employ a variety of pre-war scopes depending on the task at hand - Unertl and Fecker 8,10,12x target scopes for "serious" work, and a couple 4 and 6x Fecker Small Game scopes for hunting/plinking. The modern Low Walls have Leupold 3-9 and Weaver Classic 3-9 in their respective factory rings and I couldn't be happier. The modern Winchester (Miroku) LW .22LR also has Unertl scope block holes I drilled and tapped to accommodate a high magnification Unertl or Supertargetspot for when I want to wring the nth degree of accuracy out of it.

My Browning Low Wall wears a Leupold 3.5X10 in the windage adjustable Browning mounts.

Seems to be a good combination. Mounted as low as possible without making it a pita to get to the hammer..
