https://www.hogueinc.com/howa-1500-...arrel-stock-full-bed-block-ghillie-greenHogue full-bed stock inletted for Howa long actions with standard/sporter barrels and any of the private label variants such as Weatherby, S&W, etc.
I like the shape, look and handling enough that I’ve bought Hogue full-bed stocks for a couple rifles. Unlike the “dead,” slightly flexible feeling you get from the pillar-bed Hogues, the aluminum structure gives the rifle a lively quickness that I really like. The forend is very stiff. It’s not super-light at 2 lb., 8.8 oz. on my Harbor Freight scale, but the weight isn’t necessarily excessive in a caliber with a bit of recoil. The color is totally different than the OD/FDE mix shown for lots of Ghillie Green items on the Hogue web site. It’s more of a grey/green combo that I find very attractive. This particular example has quite a bit of variation, giving a camo-ish look.
I have back-to-backed it against the Weatherby Vanguard S2 stock, and decided I like the shape of the Hogue better. That's particular to me and my body, of course, but just to point out that personal preferences are not universal.
I bought this for a barreled action I had, but never got as far as doing anything more than test fitting/mocking up the action in it. I’ve been thinning the herd pretty aggressively and getting rid of stuff that doesn't get used, to include that barreled action, so the stock needs to go now, too. Photo shows the stainless action in the stock just to help you visualize. For reference, it was a 20-inch barrel.
