Those are nice stones. Hard to come by around here. Your buddy is dozing a nice looking place.
That's my yard after they're installed. The stones were at the bottom of a slope in front of an old house and most had been buried over the years. I dug em out and brought em home.
That's black mulch between the stones. Wife will plant some moss between. the stones.

Do you bed the stones in crushed rock or gravel to keep them from tilting or sinking or are they thick enough it’s not a concern? I’ve never done that stuff

Any tips on maintaining landscape mulch... ?
How do you keep your mulch where you want it with out some kind of restricting barrier? Mulch in our mulched areas without a barrier always floats out where we don't want it when it rains much more than a gentle shower.
Also, in the spring with trees dropping seeds and again in Autumn with falling leaves and fruits it's been pretty much impossible to prevent or to clean up afterwards and makes mulch look like crap.

Recess the shrub beds 3-4" for the mulch. Terrace hillsides so there's no slopes to speak of. Use fine mulch that "locks up" tight making raking leaves off the top do-able. Large chunky bark sucks.
