I had a 284 DL once upon a time and it was no problem for me to shoot that gun. I also currently own a 308 DL that is a pussy cat. DL for me at least are nice shooting guns. I like them.

I agree on the 1895 cowboy. Shooting the 405s out of it were terrible. Going back to my standard 22 inch heavy barrel 1895 and it was fine.

I was shooting the 400gr Remington jackets out of mine, and it liked the loads pretty hot for accuracy. 45-ish grains of 4198 if I remember correctly. I sold the rifle years ago and do not miss it one bit.

I dislike muzzle brakes with a passion. I hate being subjected to their sideways blast by other shooters at the range. When a guy shows up with one (and it seems to happen more and more of late), I retire off the line until he's done shooting.

My personal solution to heavy recoiling rifles over the years was to either get rid of them (a certain M1920 in .300 comes to mind) or shoot light loads and save the full-snot stuff for special occasions, if ever (a certain M71 carbine in .348 comes to mind). I gotta kinda chuckle when guys show up crowing about their fancy new lightweight magnums while trying to convince the rest of us that recoil doesn't bother them (when in fact they're probably trying to convince themselves) - and then proceed to jerk their shots hither and yon.

The lengths some guys go to in order to be Macho Men....

That 45-70 instilled a flinch in me that I am still fighting, and I got rid of it 10-ish years ago. 😬

When I was still dreaming of hunting Africa, I wanted a 416 Rigby. I saw a box of 416’s at a show a month or two back. Who ever it was that called me stupid about ten years ago, was a very wise man.

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

The other one that kicked like a mule was a Marlin model 90 over/under I had. I don't mind recoil, but that son of a biatch barked me in the cheek bone and rattled my teeth, two shots and I passed it to my wife and told her to get it as far away from me as she could. Grabbed my model 12 and finished out the day.

Have a Steyr Mannlicker Alpine Carbine with a set trigger that I bought when stationed in Germany circa 1970 in measly .270 that experienced riflemen friends won’t shoot anymore due to recoil and muzzle blast. I always hated sighting it in, but never noticed the recoil with a deer in the scope….one shot drop-dead kills kept me coming back. Will bequeath it to my eldest grandson, a Marine, who seems to like it.
