Interested in buying something from a guy on long range hunting site , guy has been on the site for a bit over 2 years and has 15 post .
He has no rating on selling things & is kind of new - so - any help ?

Talk to him on the phone
Let him know your concerns
Get his address and check it against public records
Try to verify if he has sold anything to other forum members ?
Ask them how the transaction went
If it don’t seem right, then pass

Pay extra to have it sent C.O.D., and you'll pay when the package arrives, since he doesn't have a history. That way he'll have to present a real ID to get his money on the other end. If you need to go after him for fraud, you'll have access to that info.
Plus call him with a phone number he provides, and you could also look him up on his county appraisal district website to see if he owns the place he gives for an address.

True people search is a good place to start It’s not been real accurate in my experience. And very outdated on the addresses provided.

Make sure you use Paypal for purchasing an item and not friends and family, if they have no rating and insist on another form of payment RUN !! They can be very clever photoshopping their name and date on a piece of paper into the photo etc..

I would have no problem (as a seller) taking a pic of me standing in front of my house/mailbox holding the item to be sold. Buyer could easily see Me, the item, my house, and address. Very easy to confirm via Zillow or google

If it's a firearm have the seller to take to his local gunshop, which you validate in advance. and call you. Then call the shop on their you listed phone number. You may have to pay for transfer fees on seller's end but you're somewhat protected. However, if 'spider senses' are up I'd walk away!

Lots of great help , I have a member here checking on name/address ..
Guy sent me his address/name/ph.# & said that when he buys - he does this search and Seller has to sign for the envelope . That way he knows the guy received the funds .

Most local governments will have tax information (tax maps, GIS) available on-line for public review. Those records will tell you who owns the property at the address you are searching. Now this would not help if the person is renting the property.
