Hi, I bought this 16ga at Kenton Coon Dog Trials. It sure has pretty wood. Someone replaced it,,not original. The strange part is serial numbers. There are no numbers, just letters inside of circles. All parts match.

Anybody ever seen this before? It is marked as a stevens 530A, which my gun book seems to know nothing about. Take a look at pics. First time with photo's,,,hope I did it right. thanks

The Stevens 530 series shotguns came out with the Plastic Tenite stocks. No doubt the reason for the fine wood which I'm sure was replaced by a previous owner. The 530 shotguns were very well made and had they had walnut stocks , they may have sold better. These were produced when it wasn't required by Federal law to have serial numbers. Chip

anybody know difference between 530 & 530A? Where to find info? No reference in gun blue book to this model.

You have to go to the repair parts manuals and even then it is not clear. Might have been a minor part change or different stock.

Is there not an address on the barrel? Book shows production for 1936-1942.

Nice pics on your first try. Interesting that the forend wood has
been stamped with the same marks as the forend iron and water table. Gun still has nice case color too. Nice looking double.

address is Savage Arms Chicopee Falls MA on reciever, none on barrels.

There is also "18C" stamped inside an oval in front of trigger on reciever, which I was told means 1951. That doesn't match your production dates though,,,,

Stamps throw me too,,,,,wondering if this stock has been carved from original, but wood grain is awful fancy for a Stevens sxs.

case colors are not original,,, for sure this gun has been shot, but no scratches or wear on face where many shells would hit when fired!!!! Fresh case color job and reblue. The wood probably at the same time.

The parts manual (1976) shows the 5100,530,530A,311,311A,311C,311D,311E and 311F all on the same page. So, variations of your shotgun were made for many years. What ever model you have it was made in 1951 and would be one of the versions made plus or minus a year of that date.

The production years I posted from the "book" (Blue Book) might have been listed for the original version with the none wood stock.
